Advent 2019 Week 3

On this episode of the She Reads Truth podcast, founders Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams try to stump She Reads Truth content director, John Greco, with all their Christmas questions. When exactly was Jesus born? Was the “inn” really an inn? Were animals present? What about the wise men? How could Joseph and Mary afford to flee to Egypt? Why do we still have so many questions about a story we’ve known since we were kids? Armed with neon ski caps and cups of coffee, the trio ventures down these and other rabbit trails related to the Christmas story, asking, “What does Scripture actually say?” They find some answers and oddities along the way, and find, once again, that God’s Word only grows richer under the microscope of our honest questions. Read with Us: This episode corresponds to Week 3 of the She Reads Truth A Thrill of Hope: Advent 2019 reading plan found on the She Reads Truth app and SheReadsTruth.com. Advent 2019 Collection at ShopSheReadsTruth.com Additional show notes can be found at shereadstruth.com/podcast/advent-2019-week-3/This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Magellan AI - https://docsend.com/view/5vdvbdx7cr4tikmyPodscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy

Advent 2019 Week 2

Our Advent series continues with a deep-dive on the mystery of Immanuel, “God with us.” She Reads Truth’s content director, John Greco, joins Raechel and Amanda as they trace the presence of God through the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. What did God’s presence look like in the Old Testament? How does the Christmas story accomplish God’s mission of dwelling with His people? How is “God with us” our true and forever hope? With a little help from their buddies Lewis, Spurgeon, and (Jimmy) Stewart, the trio explores the miracle of the incarnation, the glory of God’s presence, and the promise that we will dwell with the Lord forever. Amanda does some praise-handsing over Isaiah 41, John wonders where Cain and Abel brought their sacrifices, and Raechel can’t help but sing…just a little. Read with Us: This episode corresponds to Week 2 of the She Reads Truth A Thrill of Hope: Advent 2019 reading plan found on the She Reads Truth app and SheReadsTruth.com. Advent 2019 Collection at ShopSheReadsTruth.com Open Your Bibles: (passages referenced in this episode) Isaiah 7:14Genesis 3Genesis 4:1–7Genesis 11:1–9Deuteronomy 32:7–9Genesis 12:1–3; 15:1–6; 17:15–19Isaiah 41:17–20Exodus 31 Kings 6Exodus 25:40; Hebrews 8:5Ezekiel 37:14Exodus 34:29–35Philippians 2:5–8Revelation 21:1–5Other Links: “The Eternal Being, who knows everything and who created the whole universe, became not only a man but (before that) a baby, and before that a foetus inside a woman’s body. Mourning and Dancing - Week 2

On this episode of the She Reads Truth podcast, founders Reachel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams, and She Reads Truth content director, John Greco, go in-depth about the tension of the “already and not yet” of the gospel. How do we find beauty in brokenness? How does God enter into our trials? How do we give thanks when we are suffering? Amanda, Raechel, and John talk about the first Thanksgiving and how the holiday has been a delicate dance of celebration and sorrow from the start. Amanda remembers what it felt like to give thanks while her 4-year-old son was on life support. And the group discusses the right-now and future hope we have in Jesus. Read with Us: This episode corresponds to Week 2 of the She Reads Truth Mourning & Dancing reading plan found on the She Reads Truth app and SheReadsTruth.com. Mourning & Dancing Study Book Open Your Bibles: (passages referenced in this episode) Matthew 9:14–17John 14:18Ecclesiastes 3:1–8John 56:8Acts 16:25Revelation 21:3–5Psalm 56:8Colossians 1:13John 6:68Genesis 50:201 Thessalonians 5:16–18John 16:20Other Links: Who Was at the First Thanksgiving? Mourning and Dancing - Week 1

On this first-ever episode of the She Reads Truth podcast, founders Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams go deep fast on topics of loss, grief, joy, and hope. How do celebration and sorrow coexist in the life of a believer? Does one cancel out the other? What does Scripture have to say about suffering? What does it mean to lament? Amanda reflects on her youngest son’s 11-month hospital stay, and Raechel shares about the role the Bible played in one of the darkest days of her life. The conversation isn’t light, but it’s good, honest, and hopeful. Read with Us: This episode corresponds to the She Reads Truth Mourning & Dancing reading plan found on the She Reads Truth app and SheReadsTruth.com. Mourning & Dancing Study Book Open Your Bibles: (passages referenced in this episode) Psalm 3Revelation 21:1–5Psalm 34:18Psalm 71John 16:331 Thessalonians 4:13–18Hebrews 6:19Psalm 139:16Psalm 56:8Proverbs 14:13Romans 8:31–39Other Links: “How to Write a Psalmic Lament” worksheet — free pdf downloadToby comes home (Facebook video from Vanderbilt Children's Hospital)“A Thrill of Hope” Advent 2019 study bookRaechel & Amanda’s book, She Reads Truth: Holding Tight to Permanent in a World That’s Passing Away“Come, Ye Sinners” hymnSonic Drive-In dealsA cute neckerchief Socials: She Reads Truth on InstagramShe Reads Truth on FacebookShe Reads Truth shopRaechel Myers on Instagra&This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Magellan AI - https://docsend.com/view/5vdvbdx7cr4tikmyPodscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy
