Interview with David Davis
We had the pleasure of interviewing David Davis over Zoom video! Every once in a while an artist emerges who has the ability to move fans emotionally by creating an unforgettable musical experience. Artists of this quality come from undeniable talent, and radical vulnerability. This is the heartbeat of David Davis. For as long as he can recall, David has been fixed on a career in music. Chicago-born and surrounded by seven siblings, he captured attention by belting out Motown classics, performing in church, and always finding his way to a stage. He perfected his piano and performance skills while studying in the nationally renowned Belmont University music program, drawing inspiration from the likes of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, and India Arie. David has recorded with legendary producers, from RedOne (Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez) to Aaron Sprinkle (One Republic, Eisley). He has garnered a wide range of awards and reviews, has featured songs on hit TV shows, and has amassed over 700 shows in the last 3.5 years cross-country. He has played to sold-out clubs and festivals, both as the headliner and as an opening act for the likes of Jon Bellion and John Legend. David's voice, arrangements, and productions have been featured on chart-topping records, commercials for major brands and networks, as well as across hundreds of stages internationally. These stages include the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards Governor's Ball, a London debut at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, and a 73-show residency at Quincy Jones' club, "Q's" in Dubai. David most recently was featured on NBC's "Songland", where his song "Everything It Took To Get To You" was chosen as the winner of the Ben Platt episode (iTunes #1 Spot - New Pop Song Chart / #5 All Song Chart / #2 Pop Chart). Interview with Finger Eleven
We had the pleasure of interviewing Finger Eleven over Zoom video! Multi-platinum award-winning rock band Finger Eleven celebrate an incredible career milestone after reaching over 100 million streams on Spotify for their smash single "Paralyzer". To celebrate the landmark, the band has recorded an acoustic version of "Paralyzer" available to stream on your preferred platform. The band shared the accomplishment in a video today on their social media, thanking their fans and media for all of the support over the years. Tucked away in their home studios working on new music, the guys decided to create an acoustic version of the track to say thanks to all in celebration of the milestone. Says guitarist James Black, "It's really weird to get an email that your song has been streamed 100 000 000 times...it's almost an unimaginable number, especially for a song that almost didn't happen." One of the most successful Canadian songs of all time, "Paralyzer" was the first single from Finger Eleven's multi-platinum selling, Them vs. You vs. Me, which garnered the quartet a JUNO award for "Rock Album of the Year." The single enjoyed massive airplay, setting a record for the most consecutive weeks at #1 (fourteen) Canadian Rock charts. The track hit 1 million Mediabase spins across multiple formats and spent an incredible 52 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Earlier this year, Finger Eleven was back in the studio working on their new album, but like many artists experienced setbacks because of COVID-19. The band was due to celebrate their 20th anniversary of their sophomore album The Greyest of Blue Skies this year with a North American tour, now on hold for 2021. The band recently announced their return to Rock The Hub in 2021 (Truro, NS) and are heading back to the U.S. for Rebel Rock Festival 2021 (Orlando, FL) with more dates to be announced. Interview with Damon Johnson
We had the pleasure of interviewing Damon Johnson over Zoom video! Damon Johnson has been a triple threat…guitarist, singer, songwriter…since his early days fronting Brother Cane and scoring three #1 singles at rock radio in the 90s ("Got No Shame", "And Fools Shine On", and "I Lie In The Bed I Make"). With that band, he honed his craft with relentless touring and support slots with the likes of Van Halen, Aerosmith and Robert Plant. Since then Johnson has co-written songs for Stevie Nicks, Carlos Santana, Steven Tyler, and Sammy Hagar. After a short stint working with British vocalist John Waite, Johnson toured the world for several years as guitarist for Alice Cooper and in 2011 he joined legendary Irish rock group, Thin Lizzy. In 2013 the core of that band morphed into a new group, Black Star Riders, and released three well-received albums. Johnson has had several solo releases since 2010. In 2019 he released, 'Memoirs Of An Uprising', on his own Double Dragon Records imprint in 2019. Damon Johnson recently debut the title track, "Battle Lessons", from his forthcoming album. Battle Lessons was produced and mixed by multi-platinum producer/mixer, Nick Rasqulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Evanescence, Rush, Stone Sour and many more) and is due out later this year. Alongside the news, the artists have also announced a special ticketed livestream event, to be broadcast from Nashville on release day – Illiterate Light and Devon Gilfillian: Live from Brooklyn Bowl Nashville [presented by Fans.com]. Jake of Illiterate Light shares: We met Devon backstage at the Newport Folk Festival in 2019 and hit it off immediately. We crossed paths so often on tour in the following months that it just made sense to do a collaboration and full US co-headlining tour the following year. The dates were all planned for Fall 2020 and we had studio time booked in Nashville for the three of us in March, but it all came to a screeching halt with the initial outbreak of COVID-19. As everything around us shut down, we forged through and wrote "Freedom" together on Zoom, finished the recording from our home studios without ever stepping in the same room, and now we are finally getting together to play it live, streamed from Brooklyn Bowl Nashville + Fans.com on Friday, November 13th! Tickets are available for purchase now on a donation-based system, with GA tickets available starting at $10. Fans who wish to donate $40 or more will be entered into a giveaway for a guitar signed by all artists. The special edition Epiphone electric guitar was purchased from a local record store in Illiterate Light's hometown of Harrisonburg, VA – continuing the strong support the duo has shown and encouraged for local shops and music stores during these tough times. To purchase tickets + for additional information, please visit: https://fans.live/livestream/20201113-illiterate-light-and-devon-gilfillian ABOUT ILLITERATE LIGHT: Illiterate Light's self-titled debut album was released in 2019 by Atlantic Records. Focused around the alchemic collaboration and camaraderie between members Jeff Gorman (lead vocals, guitar, synth pedals he plays with his feet) and Jake Cochran (vocal harmonies, stand-up drum kit) and recorded with producers Vance Powell (Jack White, Kings Of Leon, Chris Stapleton) and Adrian Olsen (Foxygen, Natalie Prass), the album is part soaring indie rock, part swirling psychedelia, part atmospheric folk and — alongside critically acclaimed performances their summer at Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival, and Lollapalooza — signaled their triumphant arrival as an emergent musical force. At the top of 2020, the duo was named to NPR's "Slingshot Artists to Watch," with the outlet highlighting the duo's "energetic live shows," during which the two play "a full band's worth of instruments." NPR also highlighted the group in their "Best Songs of 2019 (So Far)," declaring their single "Carolina Lorelai" to be "an explosive mission statement from a band that's here to stay." Alongside critical acclaim from Billboard ("a reverent and downright hypnotic experience"), Uproxx ("a refined vein of My Morning Jacket / Band of Horses-style Americana"), and Relix (5 Artists You Should Know), the album was also met with success at radio – with multiple tracks off Illiterate Light cracking the Top 10 of the Adult Alternative (AAA) charts. The duo kicked off a North American headline tour at the end of January – playing to sold out rooms in Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, and an enraptured crowd at Brooklyn's Rough Trade. Interview with Elder Brother
We had the pleasure of interviewing Dan Rose of Elder Brother over Zoom video! Founded in 2014 by vocalist Dan Rose and The Story So Far guitarist Kevin Geyer, ELDER BROTHER have always oscillated away from the hard-charged, sweat-drenched sounds of their figureheads' primary impulses, opting for more brooding, patient tendencies of indie rock and Midwestern emo. But by stripping themselves down even further – to nothing but their bare essentials – the Bay Area-based band's message reverberates louder than ever on their third full-length, I WON'T FADE ON YOU. Produced by Grammy-nominated Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Joyce Manor), LP3 finds Elder Brother, now a full-time quartet with the addition of bassist Morgan Foster and drummer/keyboardist Evan Garcia-Renart, in their most comfortable place yet, distancing themselves from their alternative roots in a profound way while simultaneously elevating their place in the prolific NorCal underground scene. Interview with Brigitte Mena
We had the pleasure of interviewing Brigitte Mena over Zoom video! Brigitte Mena was born to be a storyteller, and her vehicle is music. The singer-songwriter's heartrending tunes tell harrowing tales enveloped in atmospheric, ambient melodies. But the artist has her sights set on much more than producing pop rock tracks. Armed with her versatile voice, a pen and a penchant for crafting compelling songs, Mena strives to strike a chord with audiences and tell relevant, resonant stories. Mena started crafting original music in high school, and founded her first rock band as a freshman at Southern Methodist University, where she studied Music and Psychology. Mena's music studies helped her hone her craft, while her work in psychology gave her an avenue to explore her interest in human behavior. Instead of choosing one passion over the other, the artist decided to merge the two roads ahead of her. By using her talents as a musician, Mena shines a light on topics like behavior, mental health, relationships and identity. Her debut album "Maslow" released in 2018 explored Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and heralded the arrival of a distinctive new talent, showing audiences across Texas what's possible when talent meets a one-of-a-kind voice. Mena can be seen in shows across DFW, and recently released her newest album "Element". While her bandmates, sound and style have evolved over the years, her resolve to tell powerful stories has remained. "I create a story that is relatable to a wide range of listeners," she says of her music. "These are songs I think we can all resonate with in one way or another." We want to hear from you! Interview with Jessie Wagner
We had the pleasure of interviewing Jessie Wagner over Zoom video! It's been a long journey to center stage for Jessie Wagner. Having gained her greatest exposure to date by singing songs everyone knows the words to, on some of the world's biggest stages, it's only now, through sharing her own triumphs and pain, that the spotlight is shining directly on her at last. After logging thousands of miles as an in-demand vocalist on tour with Lenny Kravitz, Chic, Duran Duran, Kid Rock and most recently Little Steven and The Disciples Of Soul, Jessie Wagner reveals a very personal collection of songs with Shoes Droppin', her debut solo album for Wicked Cool Records. Displaying an impressive range encompassing bluesy R&B, neo-soul, acoustic balladry and rock a la John Mayer's more confessional side, Shoes maintains a unified sound rooted in '60s and '70s style production. The songs trace times of darkness and redemption for the Norfolk, Virginia native, now based in New York City, who also fronts the rock/soul band Army of the Underdog. "'Shoes Droppin'' was the song I wrote when I was at my lowest point," Jessie says of the stomping, bluesy title track which opens the album. "My ex went into cardiac arrest and almost died. He spent the next couple of years fighting to regain a semblance of his former existence, and because of that, my life was arrested in a strange way. I thought I'd have to give up my music career. I fought my way back from that, and 'Shoes Droppin'' is a testament to losing and regaining your faith in what is possible." Recorded during downtime from the Little Steven world tour, the album was produced by drummer Dave Diamond (Bob Weir, Derek Trucks) with engineer Chris Laybourne. Seasoned soul guitarist Sherrod Barnes has the most co-writes with six; he's previously written for or with Beyoncé, Angie Stone and Ashanti as well as recording with Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack and Queen Latifah. The album's striking horn arrangements are by longtime Little Steven cohort Eddie Manion, who's also worked with Bob Dylan, Diana Ross and Darlene Love. Wagner never expected singing in Stevie Van Zandt's band would lead to being signed to his label for her own work. "When Stevie said he thought I was a real artist, I could've cried." Jessie recalls. "After fighting to be heard in this industry for so long, it means so much for someone of his stature to say your voice is unique and needs to be heard." Stevie says, "Her music is eclectic and unique and impossible to categorize, which makes her the perfect Wicked Cool artist." "I started the year with a record deal, and then shortly after, the world fell apart in so many ways," Jessie comments on the COVID-19 pandemic. "I'm happy that I have this album to look forward to. It gives me some purpose and determination. "This album really addresses every aspect of me as an artist. I don't settle well in any box. I've hinted at that with my rock band Army of the Underdog. But this really shows my versatility – or my schizophrenia! I like that It's honest and playful, with touches of hopelessness, but also the idea of redemption and faith." After singing for so many legends, it was a special treat to arrange and sing both leads and harmonies for herself. "That's something I love doing. After talking to Dave [Diamond] about how I thought 'What You Get' sounded like a Paul Simon song, I asked a friend how to say 'This is me' in Swahili and it sounded so beautiful. Then I had to figure out how to sing it and make it fit with the song." The sassy soul of "Over And Over" already conquered satellite radio, to be followed in August by the girl group vibes of "End Of Time." "Jorgen Kjaer sent me a piano idea and it made me want to write an Amy Winehouse type song." Future single "My Darlin', My Dear" has a slow burn kind of feel. "I had Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings in mind. It was this person begging to be recognized for her worth, and it needed to be bluesy and gritty." Interview with Danny Goo
We had the pleasure of interviewing Danny Goo and JoJo Centineo Zoom video! DANNY GOO is a rising star amidst a new generation of artists who transcend genre. His charming vocals blend plainspoken emotional vulnerability with intimate minimalist R&B indie pop. There's something both otherworldly and immediately relatable about the atmosphere the Dallas, Texas native conjures. A sprinkling of jangly shoegazing guitars might drip over breezy lo-fi laptop beats. Choruses soar or beguile at a more enchanting pace. DANNY wears his heart on his sleeve in every song, assembling a sonic diary across songs like "Still Dreaming," "Falling," and "6 AM." When Central Track chose "Purple" as their Song Of The Day, they found DANNY's music "possesses the earmarks of alternative R&B while embodying a nexus of emo, cloud rap, and dream pop," making special note of his mix of pop-punk delivery and vintage R&B melodies. DANNY's debut EP for Atoned Music is a six-song confessional detailing the rise and fall of a romantic relationship. Produced by longtime collaborator JoJo Centineo, Feel For You is a dreamy mishmash of classic pop-rock and neo-soul destined for year-end lists, club sets, and radio alike. "Bad Company," "Blue," "Better Off" and the rest of the tracks serve as musical catharsis for DANNY, with universal sentiments that will ring familiar to anyone who has ever felt heartache. Listeners who have discovered Danny via SoundCloud, Emo Nite, festivals and on bills with Emotional Xan, Boyfriendz, and Sleye are the same dedicated listeners drawn to artists like gnash, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, and Lil Lotus, who guests on the Feel For You track "So In Love." DANNY would look at home at Height Ashbury in the sixties, in Seattle in the nineties, or Manchester at the peak of the Stone Roses, and his personal Spotify mixes blend Mac Miller, BROCKHAMPTON, and twenty one pilots. From a very young age, DANNY immersed himself in the sights and sounds of different musical communities, falling in love with music festivals where the diverse and eclectic lineups are united by honesty and authenticity. The energy and hooks of Warped Tour acts like All American Rejects, the passionate delivery of pop-punk revivalists The Story So Far, and the confessional balladry of Frank Ocean all have a place in Danny's music. Seamlessly blending seemingly disparate genres into a smooth, intimate, and broad reaching sound that's as vibrant and dynamic as it is unique, DANNY GOO is on a mission to spread peace, love and positivity. It's a mission as old as time itself, broadcast through a fresh but timeless lens. We want to hear from you!
