Avoid A Quarterback Controversy – An Objective System For Grading Your Quarterbacks

With the Quarterback being the most visible position on the field, a QB controversy can be the wedge that divides a team and fractures culture within a team and its larger community. By having a subjective system, this situation can be avoided and not only clearly define the starter but also serve as a tool for QB developement. This is a system which we put together in 2010 when we faced a heated battle for the starting quarterback position. Our three-year starter was graduating and we had three freshmen battling to be in the number one spot at the beginning of their sophomore year. That year I used three criteria to help me objectively distinguish the starter from the back-ups. After doing that, I realized I could develop the criteria further to not only slot each quarterback in a position, but also give the position group valuable information about where they needed to improve. This is a system that continues on into camp and through the season, and helps give both the quarterbacks and me feedback on what needs work. Shownotes: -Release time -Accuracy -Decision making -Operating the offense -Rhythm and intermediate completions -Check downs and hot routes -Making the right decision late -Becoming the field general the team needs IRelated - Calibrating the Passing Game: https://soundcloud.com/user-804678956/coach-grabowskis-notebook-calibrating-the-passing-game Transcript + Charts: http://coachandcoordinator.com/2022/03/avoid-a-quarterback-controversy-an-objective-system-for-grading-your-quarterbacks/ Learn more about your ad choices. One More - Dave Doeren, Head Coach, NC State At The LFGF Clinic

We just finished the 2nd annual Lauren’s First and Goal Clinic. If you missed it, the good news is that both single and staff passes are available giving you either 30 days or one year with the premium ticket to access this incredible football knowledge. I love the spirit of helping others that is a huge part of the clinic and was excited to receive calls and texts from the speakers thanking us for allowing them to be a part of it. On behalf of Lauren’s First and Goal and the Loose family I want to thank all who participated, both speakers and attendees for supporting this cause. Today’s episode is a peek into the clinic with NC State head coach Dave Doeren who talks about his mission as a coach and how his team uses the idea of “one more” to improve everyday.
