Top Essential Skills for Success with Mark Herschberg
In this week's episode, we are joined by Mark Herschberg. Mark is the author of The Career Toolkit - Essential Skills for Success That No One Taught You. He believes that the fundamental skills for success are universal. These include leadership, communication, negotiation, and networking. He believes that these skills are often overlooked given that these are the most important. From a high school nerd to a sales manager. He realized that his childhood has limited him in doing his best. He didn't do well in communicating. He wasn't good at building relationships. Only when he became a manager that he thought no one ever teaches these things. Networking according to him is more than the passing of business cards but more of building a relationship rooted in trust. It is learning to give before getting anything. He also spoke about the importance of being an effective leader. For him, a good leader is someone who elevates others. It is allowing oneself to grow as a leader with your team. Empowering other people to be the best that they can is the most important role a leader has. While giving them the training that they need, you should be able to show respect and let them grow on their own. There are more of these exciting success tips in this episode!Like the show? Her success in climbing up the ladder is undeniable as she makes big leaps in her career for the last 17 years as a board member. This is why she strives to help 1000 women in taking their seats on the corporate board. Her experience with fellow women in business isn't that great and this made her see an opportunity for her to provide support for women to be ready in taking the position of power.Michel was named Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Colorado last 2019. She serves as an inspiration to all the other women of our time. She wants us to stay curious and take advantage of the opportunity to get ahead. Email Marketing - What Do You Need To Know? - with Kendra Swalls
In this episode, we have Kendra Swalls who is an elementary teacher turned photographer slash entrepreneur. She advocates for women not to aim for perfection as it doesn't necessarily mean success. Her childhood dream of becoming a teacher was a success. She worked as a full-time 2nd Grade teacher and spent about 5 to 6 years in this field. She took her Master's degrees but felt like something is still missing. It was a perfect job but there's something nagging her. So she started her photography business in Dallas, specializing in bringing out confidence in front of the camera. It was a "Jump first, learn later." kind of business strategy, therefore, allowing her to see everything including the ups and downs of starting a business. It was when her precious daughter came that she decided to leave her teaching job and focus on her photography business full-time. Through time she found herself doing blogs, mentoring women, and even starting a podcast. She started her Girl Means Business podcast last 2019 and now has 77 episodes to date. She was big in email marketing as she believes that it is more of a personal approach to engage with your clients. Emails come directly to your client's inbox where they can respond directly back to you. She discussed several platforms to use when doing email marketing. With these platforms, your sending an email to different types of clients can be easy-peasy. There are automation options in each of these.According to her, there are two main points to keep in mind, first, know your analytics. You can test which email your clients prefer and enjoy by looking at the open rate, click rates, how good your subject is, etc. This will show you what captures your client's attention. Next and what she said is so important, is including a call-to-action. She recommends adding lines at the end of your email that says "Let me know what you think." or "If you have any questions, feel free to hit reply and I'm sure to respond.". Your audience needs to know that there's a human being on the other end. Check out more of these tips in this episode and champion email marketing like a pro!Like the show?
