DEEP DIVE - On this episode of Those Conspiracy Guys we head down south to the land of the pines, to where the seemingly inarguable facets of human decency don't seem to exist and where an historically hated, morally outdated and powerfully overrated set of white guys wilfully discriminate against anyone who isn't them, we are talking about the Ku Klux Klan. From the mis 19th Century the Klan have been active and after the emancipation proclamation freed the black slaves in the US, these post civil war contrarians have fought to keep America white and keep other races, ethnicities and religions subjugated either by intimidation or by infiltrating the houses of politics and law.With new cinema being used as a Propaganda tool in the early 20th century, a second resurgance of The Klan emerged after the first wave was destroyed by political unification and social reform. This second wave were more emboldened and took actions and made an impact so much so that this is the typical image we think of today when we say KKK. With WW2 unifying the US further and African Americans fighting not only for their country but for their rights as citizens; The KKK made their third and most violent resurgence. It was created in antithesis to the Civil rights movement and powerful figures, predominantly in the South, used it to take advantage of localised prejudice.Coming from the millions of members in the 20s to just the hundreds of thousands in the 50s and 60s the Klan influence on modern culture has shone a light on the still existing bigotry in the US social structure. Their campaign of America First and the exclusion of minorities from politics, education, and social programs is said to be still in operation today. The numbers of the KKK today are in the mere thousands but still a visible force of modern day 'Nazis' are present in the form of white nationalist protestors. TRUE CRIME - On this episode of Those Conspiracy Guys we talk about the Son of Sam who terrorised New York City in the summer of 1977 with indiscriminate shootings and mysterious serial letters to the police. David Berkowitz, who originally known as the .44 Caliber Killer, shot 13 people and killed 6 in what was known as The Summer of Sam, and sparked the biggest man hunt in the history of New York.Berkowitz claimed that he was instructed by a demon, who lived inside his neighbors dog, to carry out these shootings and this and the letters sent to police, taunting them, made The Son of Sam a genuine threat to the safety of everyone in New York City at the time. DEEP DIVE - On this episode of Those Conspiracy Guys we talk about the most controversial conspiracy topic there is; a belief system that has brother fighting against brother and has lit the internet ablaze in the last few years with growing numbers of evangelists online reaching record numbers, we are talking about the theory of The Flat Earth. From knowledge almost forgotten from ancient maps and turn of the century enlightened thrill seeking scientists and sociologists, the theory of the flat earth has had an ebb and flow on society. Saying we lived on a globe was once heresy and then it was absolute truth, and in the modern age questioned again by late 19th century scientists and flat earth enthusiastsThe evolution of the world map was only as quick as the advancement of the technology that was used to create them. Ancient mariners had very rudimentary maps of their local area, favouring size for their own dominion of course. But new methods of cartography showed a world few had seen and left artefacts to cast doubt on the true shape of the planet. Modern theories include accusations of informational obfuscation and hidden taunting messages in the logos of government and enterprise organisations. Manipulating scientific measurement equipment and fudging the numbers on satellite imagery is the explanation for the hidden flat plane aspect of the earth and new accusations fly every day.Sea faring explorers both old and new have given in to the inexorable pull to circumnavigate  the globe, but when reaching Antarctica they invariably run into some problems. Either multi national legal prohibitions or physical hurdles which make navigation impossible. Antartica remains a mystery and a source of many spurious allegations. Hard science is even put into question in the crucible of the Flat Earth mentality. The sinking ship effect and other optical and physical illusions and malformities mean that the world we expect is not fully there when we actually go to investigate. On 24th November 1971 a man in a fancy suit and sunglasses stole $200,000 dollars from authorities after he hijacked a plane and then jumped from that plane with the money, never to be seen or heard from again.For forty years this crime has been unsolved and no one knows the identity of the gentleman thief. Some are putting out some pretty good guesses but they are all still fruitless. Its speculated that he was a military man with training; some say he worked for the airline; some even speculate that it was an inside job and he many never have existed at all!Comedian Chris Kent joins me to talk about DB Cooper and the strange tale of where this cash went and why he was never found! TRUE CRIME - On this episode of Those Conspiracy Guys we talk about one of the original spree killers and a man for whom the term 'evil' could be appropriately administered; Richard Speck. Speck killed 8 nurses in their dormitory in the Summer of 1966 and marked his place in history as one of the most brutal humans to ever live.Speck was born to raise hell and showed this from an early age. His manipulate and abusive step-father got Richard into bad habits early and before long he was committing petty crimes and being arrested. His first sexual assaults and even murders went largely unpunished and he was blessed with lucky escapes from the law by moving around the US Speck took his hostages and raped and murdered them over the course of an evening; one witness was left to idenitfy the crazed killer though. Cora Amurao, a nurse, was left alive to finger Speck in the dock while on trial.
