A must read. We dive deep into why we shouldn’t call them riots, they’re uprisings, and why it’s the police being oppressive in Black communities that sparks those uprisings.Patreon.com/toureshowInstagram: @toureshowTwitter: @toureToure Show Episode 282Host & Writer: TouréSenior Producer: Jackie GarofanoAssistant Producer: Adell ColemanEditor: Ryan WoodhallPhotographers: Chuck Marcus, Shanta Covington, and Nick KarpBooker: Claudia JeanThe House: DCP Entertainment Learn more about your ad choices. James Blake-I Beat Federer

On the day of the US Open Finals let’s throwback to my 2018 convo with James Blake the tennis star who was once #4 in the world and #1 in America with wins over Federer and Nadal. But what’s most amazing is that he played his best tennis after breaking his neck in a freak injury and contracting shingles and losing his dad—all in one year. He’s tough, smart (Harvard), humble, and cool. And the best Black male player since Arthur Ashe. I interviewed him at the tennis club where I grew up, Sportsmen’s Tennis Club in Dorchester, Massachusetts, in front of a few hundred people. James is an amazing person. It’s really interesting to see how he thinks.Patreon.com/toureshowInstagram: @toureshowTwitter: @toure Learn more about your ad choices. Michael K Williams

In 2018 I interviewed the legendary actor Michael K Williams about his HBO documentary Raised In the System which gave him a chance to talk about criminal justice and also about his incarcerated nephew Dominic who did over 20 years inside. It was a powerful interview—we talk about prison, drug addiction, acting, the Wire, the Night Of, and Dominic who had been released days earlier and was there at the interview with us. It was an honor to spend time with Michael—he was an intense freedom fighter who cared deeply about criminal justice reform. His intensity comes through in this conversation.Toure Show Episode 277Host & Writer: TouréSenior Producer: Jackie GarofanoAssistant Producer: Adell ColemanEditor: Ryan WoodhallPhotographers: Chuck Marcus, Shanta Covington, and Nick KarpBooker: Claudia JeanThe House: DCP EntertainmentLearn more about your ad choices. Finding Kendrick Johnson

To hear this awesome conversation go to http://patreon.com/toureshow and subscribe. For just $5 a month you get 4 Friday Patreon exclusives and the full version of our Wednesday shows and you get to help us keep making this show!Kendrick Johnson was 17 years young when he was murdered but no one has been brought to justice. Why? Perhaps because he was killed in the Deep South, possibly by the son of an FBI agent. It’s a tragic story that relates to the history of lynching, the FBI and so much more. The gripping documentary about all this Finding Kendrick Johnson is narrated by Jenifer Lewis from Black•ish so I talked to her and the film’s director Jason Pollock about this story.Toure Show Episode 276Host & Writer: TouréSenior Producer: Jackie GarofanoAssistant Producer: Adell ColemanEditor: Ryan WoodhallPhotographers: Chuck Marcus, Shanta Covington, and Nick KarpBooker: Claudia JeanThe House: DCP Entertainment Learn more about your ad choices.
