Episode 12- Garrett Russell, Silent Planet
Welcome to the 12th episode of the Power/Less Podcast!
Today I talk to Garrett Russell, lyricist and vocalist in the progressive metalcore band, Silent Planet.
Garrett and I discuss Christianity and the modern dilemmas of how spirituality, theology, and evangelical aspects are often used for the opposite of what much of spiritual teachings profess. We also talk about political and social issues, the problems of partisanship in the United States, and a host of other issues both related to tensions in and outside of the music industry.
Garrett also speaks for the first time on an an aspect of Silent Planet's song, "Alive, As a Housefire" that was written during the height of the 2020 protests, as well as "Native Blood," and how a song he wrote a decade ago really still resonates today.
This is probably my favorite episode I've done so far, so I hope you enjoy it!

Episode 10- James Lascelles, Wheel
Welcome to the 10th episode of the Power/Less Podcast!
In this episode, I speak to James Lascelles, singer, frontman, and mastermind behind the Finnish progressive metal band, WHEEL.
James talks about their newest EP "Rumination," and the more straightforward approach to the songs as compared to the band's more proggy full album releases, "Moving Backwards" and "Resident Human."
We talk about the inspiration behind the heavy track "Blood Drinker," where James pulls inspiration from for the band's music, where a lot of the tones and textures come from for their recordings, and the ups and downs for a full time international touring band over the last few years.

Episode 09- Kelsey Montanez
Hello and welcome to the Power/Less Podcast!
In this episode I talk to Kelsey Montanez, singer songwriter in the Chicago area. Kelsey has had a hell of a trajectory when it comes to music, from starting at an early age, to a debut EP and record contract in 2013 and featuring Chance the Rapper on a song, to making the decision to go independent. Kelsey talks about the pressures of that era and what lead her to make a decision to leave her deal and become an independent artist, as well as how the pandemic (and a very cool music residency job in Chicago) helped give her the drive to get back into releasing music and playing seriously again after almost a decade.
Her new single, "Sold My Soul," talks in good detail about these things, and it's also a hell of a song!
Catch Kelsey and her band at Reggies on 01/21 in Chicago, and look for information on their upcoming shows in the future at her instagram handle: @kelseymontanez_

Welcome to another episode of The Power/Less Podcast
In this episode I talk to Nate Bergman, solo artist and frontman of Lionize.
We talk a lot about Nate's debut album, "Metaphysical Change," especially the song Just Like Dylan Said, which plays at the end.
Nate and I discuss the trajectory of his solo album from being locked down at the start of COVID in a different country, to the collaborations including members of Coheed and Cambria, Thursday, My Chemical Romance, Opeth, and more. This record is timeless, incredibly well done, and an album almost anyone can find enjoyment in, so make sure to check it out!
