Designer Spotlight: Tie-Dye With Made By Keeper | EP 76

You know Holly loves nothing more than hunting down new designers for y’all, and this week, we have a super-fun and super on-trend designer with us on the show: Lindsay of Made By Keeper!  This “Designer Spotlight” episode shines on Made By Keeper, who creates ice dye and reverse dye fashions. If you don’t know what that is – then, helleeerrrr...that is why WE are here! #duh #youarewelcome Designer Lindsay has been tie-dying everything she could get her hands on since she was a kid – using things like Kool-Aid and avocados, and just about anything with a strong, stainable color. (Her mother must have just LOVED that!) “I was always a creative kid. I would rather be in art class (or theater) instead of any other class. It wasn't until I was much older that my interests broadened to more than what I could learn in a classroom. One thing that always stuck was my love for the abstract. I've never been one to be symmetrical - could never draw a human form that looked right or a bowl of fruit that was lifelike.” “Be a Fruit Loop in a bowl of Cheerios!” - Linsday, Made By Keeper Anyway, Holly and her husband - and of course Schmutz The Wonder Doodle - were walking on the West Side one day, and found Linsday at a street market in 72nd Street all decked out in the most AMAZEBALLS tie-dye from head to toe – so of course, Holly had to learn more.  Holly fell in love with Lindsay’s tie-dyes (remember, she IS the best fashion friend you never knew you needed), especially the ultra-cool jogger sets, dog hoodies and adorable sets of kitchen towels and napkins. How great would those be as a summer house-warming gift!?   So, we invited Linsday to the show to tell us all about the art of tie-dye, her creations and how she started her own woman-owned business. #bosslady #brandbestie Fashion Crime Fact: The crime is here is not wearing tie-dye or too much tie-dye.  The crime is not taking the time to appreciate something different, and not supporting women-owned small businesses, especially lesser-known artists and creators.  We love supporting women-owned small businesses! We love to shop small. We love creative people in the fashion industry that are doing good in the world.  And by the way? These are not your Jerry Garcia tie-dyed T-shirts, folks. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but different animal entirely. First, you should know that there are many styles and processes of tie-dying. Lindsay takes us through some of them from the traditional Batik and Shibori, to the techniques she uses which are ice dyes (yes, with ice) and reverse dyes.  Holly’s Key Insights: This creative process is hard, people! It is an art form. It takes a long time to do. This is not your third-grade tie-dye. This is real, curated, thought-out, interesting, technical tie-dye. It is done in a very special way. This is bringing it back to the bare bones of what you can be wearing and how to express your creativity and your individualism.  Be sure to check out our social posts and stories to see some of Lindsay’s technical processes.  You can also see more on Instagram and Etsy, where you will find all the clothing and accessories Lindsay now creates. Her fashions are unisex, and have inclusive sizes from newborn and infant, up to size up to 6X:  Joggers/Shorts Hoodies/Sweatshirts Dog Hoodies Accessories Beach Towels Kitchen Towels Ice Dyes Reverse Dyes Custom Dyes Custom Shoes Made by Keeper’s life goal? Total tie-dye world domination! Of course!  And Lindsay is right on trend with that, Fashion Friends. Because in the era of work from home (WFH), guess what people are wearing? Loungewear, comfy wear, not their pajamas.  As Holly says (and you know she says a lot), it’s OK to dress casually when working from home. BUT, if you need to dive behind your couch when the doorbell rings, then you need to get yourself dressed like a real adult every morning.  #jussayin Fun Fashion Fact: Work from home does not mean you get to look like shit all day. #howtonotlooklikeshit #preach But wait, there's more. Sneaker Heads Unite! Lindsay is also into transforming sneakers. Most of her work is one of a kind; just by nature of the beast. But she loves getting the opportunity to take on custom projects – and sneakers have been her jam of late. This also falls into the area of sustainability: recreate your sneakers, items with stains, jeans, dye a sweater with your college colors - anything that is cotton and basically white can be transformed.  Want more style advice from Holly? Of course you do. Be sure to head over to her Pinterest boards for some of her best fashion recommendations.  That’s it for this week! Designer Spotlight: Sustainable Della Terra Shoes | EP 75

This week on the FASHION CRIMES PODCAST “Designer Spotlight” guest series, we are shining our light on sustainable shoe designer, Emily Landsman Archila of Della Terra Shoes, who is now - of course - our new brand bestie!  What is “sustainable fashion”?  Well, your favorite stylist Holly Katz is here to tell you, because YOU NEED TO KNOW!  Go right now and listen to this week’s podcast: “Sustainable Brand Della Terra Shoes” A little background:  Della Terra has a mission to be an ethical and inclusive brand continuously working towards sustainability. With sustainability, accessibility, and inclusivity at the forefront of the brand, they embrace and support all facets of life.  “Footwear with less footprint” Two years ago, shoe designer Emily Landsman was inspired to create what was missing from her wardrobe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her transitional, inclusive styles are completely versatile #footwear, and her company is focused on creating real #shoes for real people! And, by the way, are both SUPER cute and fashionable! Yaaaassssss!   This Shoe Boss Lady comes from a massive design background: After receiving her Master of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Emily worked in corporate footwear for nearly 16 years designing for prestigious fashion brands such as Alice + Olivia, Diane Von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Vince Camuto, Clarks, Via Spiga and many more. Anyway, back to the episode: after Emily and Holly gush about their mutual BFF and friend of the podcast – Vienne Brown of Vienne Milano - Emily tells us about how she came to create a woman-owned, #sustainable shoe company. After years in the corporate shoe industry, she wanted to create a company of her own. But she was terrified - as any entrepreneur should be - before jumping off the diving board headfirst.  It wasn't really until the pandemic hit, when she had time to spend marinating in the future of fashion, that she came to realize how businesses were going to have to adapt and change in our rapidly changing world.  So naturally, in the middle of a world pandemic, she decided THIS was the perfect time to launch a sustainable footwear brand!  It was during those crazy COVID days, when the world seemed to stop, that she thought about this change - the way people shop, the way they dress - it was all transforming before our eyes.  But at that moment came some clarity, and she knew exactly what was missing. And she knew that she could create it. Enter Della Terra, a sustainable and fashionable shoe company, which launched in June of 2020.  So, what is does ‘sustainable fashion’ mean, and why should we care?  Well, have you ever thrown out old flip-flops? That was made of rubber or plastic or leather? What happens to them in the trash pit? Do they just magically disappear? Or do they last forever? YES. They last forever.  Imagine every single person on the planet throwing ONE PAIR of flip-flops away per year. How big is that “forever” trash pile?  This is why being environmentally conscious and using sustainable materials in fashion matters. Emily tells us that sustainability is not a “one and done” thing. It is something we need to constantly work toward.  In producing her own shoe line, they only produce in small batches, they order factory minimums and make relatively few pairs of shoes at one time. The company manages production amounts by allowing preorders early for styles because they want to make sure that - right off the bat – they are not producing more shoes than there's a need for.  Emily wants to know that every pair of shoes is going to have a loving home, which is what we want for all shoes in the world! Right!? But also, we need to know what the shoes are made of. Della Terra does not use any animal products in their footwear.  They are PETA-approved and use vegan leather – a vegan leather that is very specific. They had to be sure that they were not just making more damn plastic shoes, but instead, making shoes that are a combination of what they call “bio-based” - natural plant-based materials - and recycled materials. Emily tells us that one of the things we cannot take for granted is the fact that even if something is recyclable, a ton of resources are needed to recycle it. She wanted Della Terra to be one of those resources who was recycling what's already out there. #supersmart Having a product or company with a purpose requires that you analyze all the ways you may impact the world: the resources you use, the trash you create, and what you give back to others or the world.  So, Della Terra also works with carbon-neutral factories, and they plant one tree for every single pair you buy via One Tree Planted. The great thing about trees is that when you plant them, they grow right away. They won't be huge trees producing tons of oxygen yet, but as soon as they're planted, you are already helping the environment. And then those trees just continue to grow. Key Insights here: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.  The fashion crime here is not being a thoughtful and responsible fashion producer – AND – not being a responsible consumer. That is on you....#umewww Buying vintage is cool, trading clothes with friends is fun, donation is mandatory - and honestly - people really do need your gently-used shoes and stilettos!  For donating, Holly loves Out of the Closet and Dress for Success. Emily loves Soles 4 Souls. And they both love any organization that can help people feel confident and be dressed appropriately when trying to back on their feet. Literally and figuratively. There are enough clothes in this world that no one should ever not have anything to wear. - Holly Katz What about style and the fashion industry?  Holly notes that the fashion industry ‘says’ they are working toward being more sustainable, but as a veteran fashion industry expert, she knows that some companies really are doing it the right way. However, a lot of companies may claim they are sustainable, but maybe they're only taking a percentage of their line and doing that.  It's not a secret that the fashion industry is about selling units. The fashion industry is about making sure their profits are higher, every single day. Holly used to be in garment construction and production, where a quarter of a penny makes a difference. So, if someone can save a quarter of a penny by doing something not sustainable, that is what they are going to do.  Some fashion brands are doing the “greenwashing” trend, which is a marketing tactic used to portray an organization's products, activities, or policies as environmentally friendly when they’re anything but. Emily notes that the silver lining of that is, they're doing that because the customer cares and is demanding sustainability. And FINALLY, Holly and Emily get to the fashion part of Della Terra shoes.  They feature slip-on flats, block-heel shoes, the most BADASS boots, and more.  The styling and construction are GORGEOUS! Emily pays particular attention to detail and proportion. And we especially love her because she is a bit of a rule-breaker. Holly has posted some of her favorite Della Terra shoes on her Pinterest board, along with suggested outfits for each shoe. This is FREE advice, people! So, if you made it this far, you are welcome!!  Have you downloaded this week’s episode yet?? Get it wherever you listen or at https://apple.co/2XXKHfC. That’s it for this week! What to Wear to a Funeral | EP 74

It is the beginning of the new year. And we have been getting a lot of requests for what to wear for this, what to wear for that? What should I do? What should I get? Should I buy something new? Should I wear something I already have? And unfortunately, the number one question Holly get’s is this: What To Wear To A Funeral? Listen to the new episode now here!  This week, your favorite stylist Holly Katz has been watching Golden Girls like it's her job this past week. Like EVERYONE. #DUH Everyone loves those Girls! Holly loves them, all of her gays love them, Nolan loves them. It's just been a really sad week. We have lost a national treasure. Host sidebar:  “Miss Betty White, you aged with so much grace, and how lucky we were to have you in our homes day after day! Throughout your career, you have honestly been an example to many.  You are a pal, and a confidant, especially to animals. And you made us laugh with your innocence and your authenticity. You humbled us. You are the truest example that age really is just a number. We can all only hope to have a life as full as yours.  May you rest in peace, Miss Betty White, and as we say in the Jewish religion, may your memory be a blessing. Thank you, Betty White. Thank you for being a friend.” By the way, the main topic we are covering today is the American funeral. And regardless of religion, this is about what's expected and appropriate at these things. Day, or night. It does not matter. The dress code is the same.  Did you know that this is honestly one of the most commonly asked subjects on Google? Because again, a lot of people don't know what to wear. “Use your best judgment. Does that mean you should wear neon to a funeral? Of course not. You're not supposed to draw attention to yourself, because this event is not about you. It's about paying respect to the family. You are supposed to blend in, however, you do not have to sacrifice your style, or try to dress like someone that you're not.” – Holly Katz, personal stylist FASHION FACT: The dress code for a funeral is business casual.  We will say that again: The dress code for a funeral is BUSINESS CASUAL, even since before COVID-19. Holly has been yelling about this for years. What is business casual, you might ask?  Let us break it down for you into two simple terms. Wear this. Not that. For context, we are going to give you a few examples:  Wear This: Slacks that are non-denim. Not That: Leggings.  Wear This: A dress. Not That: A very short skirt that's mid-thigh. Wear This: A collared shirt. Not That:  A freaking sports jersey, Mkay?  It's pretty simple. What you would wear to an office for business casual means you're dressed. If you want to, you can wear a jacket, a skirt, a tie perhaps, or wear heels.  Business Casual Dress Code Wear This: Natural Makeup Tights or Stockings Dress Shoes Dress Belt Dress Socks Sports Coats Dress Coat Minimal Patterns Don’t Wear This: Stained or ripped clothing Clothing that is too tight No undershirt Ill-fitting undergarments Too much jewelry Heels over 4-inches high Excessive perfume or cologne So, put it on your bulletin board, put it on your bathroom mirror, and God knows if you know somebody who needs this list, feel free to pass it on. #youarewelcome Business casual means you do not wear slouchy, sloppy clothing that you would wear on a regular day just kickin' around. You should wear tailored, structured clothing that looks presentable in a business environment.  FREE STYLIST TIP: If somebody dies tomorrow, you have to have something to wear. Most women usually say, “Oh, this is my funeral dress,” which is fine. It just doesn't have to be the only option that you have to wear. And honestly, your “funeral dress” should be something you can wear not just to funerals, but to other events, too. You should have something in your wardrobe that functions for many things, and not just have one thing set aside for a funeral. (Hopefully, you don't go to that many funerals!) WHAT ABOUT COLORS? First off, we want to talk about the color black.  The old rules about color are dead. Having certain colors that complement your skin tone are always good to know. But again, this doesn't mean you can't wear whatever color you want to.  If you have very fair skin does that mean you can't wear pink? No. If you have really bright fire orange, red hair, and freckles, does that mean you can't wear orange or red? Of course not.  It's ridiculous. But in the 80s image consultants use to “do your colors,” where you would be defined as warm or cool and they would show you what colors look best on you, which is actually helpful. However, in Holly’s opinion, it's subjective, there is no color that one certain person cannot wear. But you should use your best judgment. Some funerals are actually called a "celebration of life," which is a really nice twist on making people appreciate the life that someone has lived, and not wallow in sorrow that they are now gone. It usually means the dress code is the same: you should try to look your best. Read the room: It's a funeral.  Find a way to be respectful, not stand out and stick with business casual. If you really want to see some amazing and perfect examples of funeral attire, jump over to Holly’s Pinterest board now! Of course, there is always the traditional black dress, which is on the Pinterest board, too. But there are lots of other options as well:  Pantsuits Skirts Trousers Blouses Sweaters Jackets If you decide that you don't want to wear black, Holly has lots of other really great outfits that you can put together to go to a funeral. And then you can rotate them throughout your wardrobe.  HOW TO DRESS YOUR KIDS FOR A FUNERAL: Want to know a real fashion crime? Kids who have not dressed appropriately at events, such as a funeral.  Get your kids on board with the dress code. Holly actually researched this on a couple of different funeral home websites – and they have it right there in black and white:  Get children and teenagers on board with the dress code!   No sports jerseys, no logos, no shorts, or no stupid crap teenagers like to wear. #sorrynotsorry    We understand you have to pick your battles, obviously. But this is one that they should follow by your gleaming example. In short, if you're not dressed appropriately, they will not be either. TO ACCESSORIZE OR NOT TO ACCESSORIZE? Don't trip on the details of wearing too much or too little jewelry and trying to coordinate matching stuff. Period.   When you pick out an outfit, do not get hung up on what earrings match your necklace. At this age (the Golden 50s), you should have regular jewelry, whether it's real or not, that goes with everything. Your outfit should flow and be easy to look at. You should start with a blank canvas and work around it. It’s just like baking or making a recipe. You have to have the right ingredients to get the final product to come out correctly the way it should.  Number One: you should have the right undergarments. This is the first step in building a great outfit. Number Two: Do you want to wear pants? A dress? Or a skirt? Say for example, if you decide that you want to wear a pantsuit, which is perfectly acceptable and business casual to wear to a funeral. Picking a blouse that will complement the jacket that you're wearing is easy. You can wear a solid or you can wear a pattern. You can even wear a sweater underneath your blazer - that's a great look too.  If you want to wear a belt, that would count as an accessory. All you need to do now is pick some jewelry, a shoe, and a bag. That's a complete outfit.  Say, for example, you wanted to wear a scarf instead of a necklace. That's another way to accessorize! You can also tie a scarf to the handle of your handbag. That too counts as an accessory.  Just know you don't have to worry about being matchy-matchy. Your earrings don't have to match your necklace, they don't have to match your bracelet, and they don't have to match your ring. Do not get caught up in those details.  Costume jewelry should be elevated and mixed with real. Statement earrings, a chunky necklace, or layered necklaces are great ways to mix and match. WHAT ABOUT SHOES? You already know that less is more, and that is definitely the case with shoes. A lot of people cannot wear heels - which is completely fine! You can wear a wedge or wear a low block heel. These provide more support than a stiletto, and FYI: No one should be wearing sneakers. No one, no one, no one.  If you prefer not to wear heels, then you need to get some really nice gorgeous upscale designer flats - which every company in the world makes. Fabulous examples on the Pinterest board.  A neutral color is always easiest, but an animal print, like a snake print or a cheetah print is considered a neutral as well. If you're not there yet, try a metallic shoe like a silver or bronze. It's a great way to elevate a solid color suit, and in the words of Stacy London:  “All metallics are neutrals. So it is absolutely fine to mix gold and silver; you just want it to look like it has purpose.” — Stacy London, stylist HOW TO NOT LOOK LIKE SHIT: Do not make these mistakes:  Try your clothes on before your event. Make sure your old stand-by outfit doesn’t have a stain on it. Make sure your clothes still fit! Maybe you have a suit, but the pants don’t fit anymore. That is ok, you can still wear the jacket! Have the correct undergarments. If you haven't been fitted for a bra lately, then please, by the love of God, do that. And, if you haven't gotten a new pair of shoes lately that are nice enough to wear to a funeral, then go out and get some new shoes.  BE SURE TO LISTEN TO THE NEW EPISODE here! Again, all of these examples are on the Pinterest board. Make sure you check it out and just know you're not alone.  If you have no idea what you're doing, or what you're wearing, when it comes to being a guest at a funeral, it's okay. It's not a big deal.  The first step is awareness. It doesn't matter that you don't know.  If you don't know -  find out! Just ask  - and let's get you dressed right. How to Buy a Winter Coat | EP 73

In case you missed the memo: It's cold as ______ (you fill in the blank) in most parts of the country right about now, and if you are like us, you are digging into the back of your closet, looking for ANYTHING warm to wear.  Lucky for you, our very best fairy gaymother and Gal-About-Town, NOLAN MEADER, is back on this week's podcast to share his professional insights on #WinterCoats: what to wear, what will actually keep you warm, and how not to break the bank! LISTEN TO THE NEW EPISODE HERE! Don't you dare put a ski parka on over that dress! We don't care how freaking cold you are. And even though #PufferCoats are all the rage - because they are super warm, duh! - not all styles are for every body, or for every budget. We are SO GRATEFUL that Nolan has taken the time out of his very busy schedule to talk to us today. Holly has a very important topic to discuss, and we need his expertise! Inquiring minds want to know (a.k.a. some of her clients and her besties): How to Buy a Winter Coat.  And who better than someone with a coat problem (not a "coke" problem, btw) to talk about how to buy a coat. Naturally, that is NOLAN! "Coat problem or Coke problem?  Uhm, one is better for your health, but honestly, they are equally expensive. They are both a problem? - NOLAN MEADER, coat addict #Facts: Coats are an investment. They make a statement. But, they need to be practical so you don't freeze to death. There is ALOT to consider, so don't be swayed by fast fashion and cheap fads. See Holly’s winter coat recommendations HERE! 5 COAT STYLES YOU NEED TO KNOW The Puffer Coat The Trench Coat The Dress Coat The Midi Coat The Leather Jacket or The Moto Jacket During ‘official coat season,” events and the weather dictate the appropriate item to wear. Ski jackets are for skiing. Trench coats are for rainy days, puffers are for cold weather, and leather jackets are THE BOMB all year round.  So, do you really need 5 different coats? Yes. You do. THE PUFFER: All the rage, they are super trendy right now – but, they can be super expensive! Also, do you need to have a mattress tied around the middle of your waist? Not a great look for every body, except a supermodel.  Pick a length, the amount of “puff” and the price before investing in the latest fad fashion coat.  Brands recommended: Canadian Goose vs. Moncler?  Nolan has A LOT to say about these two high-end brands. Note: both are designed for cold weather. Like CANADA WEATHER and SKIING IN SWITZERLAND weather. Most people purchase one of these items ONCE in their lifetime.  So, is this the winter coat for you? Do you live in Atlanta? Don’t get caught up in the hype of $1,000+ coat brands if your lifestyle doesn’t fit.  Plus, like all fads, the super expensive Canadian Goose is falling out of fashion for the tried-and-true luxury brand Moncler these days. So if you bought the expensive Goose for the brand name, you are now out of fashion. Do not follow fads.  THE TRENCH COAT: OK, so BURBERRY is the standard for trench coats. And, they are expensive. But, they are made to withstand crappy, rainy weather, and for that quality, they cost more. You will have a trench coat like this your entire life. So if you have the opportunity, it is a wise investment. Not a wise investment? A trench coat that is not waterproof. DUH. Brands recommended: Burberry  Ganni  THE DRESS COAT: This is a NON-NEGOSH. If you are an adult you need a dress coat. And not one that you've been wearing for 15 years that is covered in cat hair. A long coat that sits just below the knee made from a wool blend will keep you warm and stylish throughout even the chilliest of seasons. Brands and styles recommended: Mabel Wool Blend Check Coat - ALLSAINTS Gabardine Trench Coat - @maxmara  Bree Check Wool Coat - ALLSAINTS   THE MIDI COAT: This is sometimes called a “car coat” for both men and women. It is a dressy, finger tip-length coat that goes well over jeans and casual outfits. Paired with a turtleneck, jeans and even tennis shoes, this coat can take you a style step to be fun and fancy. You will look dressed up without effort or expense. Brand recommended: Kate Spade Bernardo Fashions THE LEATHER JACKET or MOTO STYLE JACKET: We are not gonna lie. Holly has a problem when it comes to a leather jacket. And we aren’t even going to be mad about that, because a leather jacket – a moto jacket – can LITERALLY go with anything in any season. THIS you can wear over your dress. You can wear with jeans, or dress pants. You can wear with a maxi skirt. You can wear any season. You can wear day or night.  So, Holly gives you permission to own as many as you like…. Brands recommended:  All Saints MaxMara Ok. But back to Nolan – because he is our special guest. Nolan has a coat problem. We have established this already. But he knows the value of a good coat: it dresses you up, it keeps you warm, you can accessories a coat (more shopping!) and at the end of the day, you can resell a quality coat, trade with your bestie or let it rest in your closet until another season.  Nolan’s Recommendations for Men: Even though it’s bougie and douchey, a hoodie with a really nice men’s wool dress coat is THE BOMB. Just please don’t wear Golden Goose tennis shoes with this ensemble.   Add a vintage or designer brooch to your heavy winter dress coat. Nothing says fancy like a Chanel brooch, and we are obsessed.  If you buy a trench coat, make sure it is WATERPROOF, for the love of God. And don’t dismiss a good men’s bomber jacket. A dressy bomber can be your BFF for life: Miami, LA, Vegas, summer, spring, fall – we can’t think of many occasions this is perfect for.  Get all of these recommendations on our PINTEREST boards, and be sure to listen to every second of this latest episode HERE. Stay warm! Don’t buy shit that makes you look like the Michelin Tire Man! Don’t sell a kidney! We are here for you, fashion-'splaining all the fashion insights for you, so that you can find the perfect winter coat this year.  You’re Welcome! - The FASHION CRIMES PODCAST, with your favorite personal stylist, Holly Katz  Follow our podcast wherever you listen or at https://apple.co/2XXKHfC Please be sure to sign up for our “INSIDERS ONLY” newsletter here.  And if you find yourself in a fashion pickle - reach out, send Holly a DM today! What to Wear For New Year's Eve | EP 72

Socks or Sequins? In or Out? This year, THAT is the burning question. But no matter what your plans are for #NewYearsEve, your favorite personal stylist Holly Katz has picked out the perfect outfits for whatever 2022 brings you. Be sure to catch this week's new episode of the #FashionCrimesPodcast to get Holly's #FashionInspiration for going out on the town - or staying in to enjoy a cozy and indulgent night at home. OUT WITH A BANG? So, are you going out? Are you going to someone's house? To a restaurant? Maybe a swanky hotel party? Well, as Holly likes to say: "To sequin or not to sequin?" That is today's other question. Of course, the answer is always SEQUINS! #duh So, this year, if you are going out, don't chicken out. You can wear your little black dress or fancy jeans any old day of the week. But since you have someplace to go, let's go! “You want to wear jeans? Fine. But since you wear jeans most of the year, my professional fashion opinion would be to say skip it and go for some fancier pants. Who doesn't love some fucking fancy pants?” Put on some sequins or feathers, add pops of color or wear your sparkle pants.  Show some shoulder, kick up your heels, wear some fun boots! Want more fashion inspo? You gotta check out Holly's NYE Pinterest board! Get glammed up - but be comfortable - so you can really enjoy the fun. Holly has tracked down some fabulous new designers (like Hildur Yoeman from Iceland!), the latest party trends, and styling tricks for making your night out special! See Holly’s picks for NYE party fashions here. Brands recommended in this segment: Ganni Hildur Yoeman La Pointe Ralph Lauren STAYING HOME IS AMAZEBALLS! With so many fun choices in loungewear and fancy pajamas these days, why go out? Holly recommends splurging on some extravagant, overpriced PJs - and making a BFD about staying home.Holly's favorites? Well, NAADAM to start with because, duh, it's cashmere. Also, we are #sorrynotsorry. This brand is from the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. It's the best cashmere for the best price that we have seen, and everyone is doing cashmere right now.Fun Fact: NAADAM was founded in 2013 by two dudes who went traveling around to different sheep farms to find the best prices and the best herders. They cut out the middleman to make a more sustainable and ethical product without driving up the price - and we are totally here for that! Also, a new fav: Lingerie. Ok, stop it! We already know what you are going to say:  "Like I am really gonna sit around in Italian silkwith my kids on New Year's Eve?"  Don't stop here just because you think this idea is ridiculous or unrealistic. If you don't own any fabulous silk pajamas and want to take a splurge this year; DOOOOO IITTTT with LaPerla. And we are not talking about the overly sexy stuff - lingerie also includes silky camisoles and matching pajama shorts.  Find something a little bit out of your comfort zone, but still covers the parts you want to be covered. Ho Ho Ho, #Fashion Friends! And Happy HOLLY Days! If you are not ready for Christmas, it is not our fault. Because we are on our SECOND – count ‘em, TWO, holiday #styleguides and gift giveaways - and Holly has been telling you since freaking Hanukkah what to wear for your events, and what gifts to buy for people you like. This week on our social, we have been running the #FashionCrimesPodcasts Christmas Style Guide and Gift Giveaway – valued at over $525, which features more designer #BestieBrands that YOU NEED TO KNOW NOW! #duh As you know, our favorite personal stylist Holly Katz is on a mission help people build confidence by teaching them about their personal style - and one way she is able to do this for her clients - is by tracking down fashions and brands that work best for them.  In this process, she has found some women-owned small businesses that are quite frankly amazeballs, led by BADASS up-and-coming designers and creators – and she is here to share them with you.  In this episode, we are featuring the designers of 5 new Bestie Brands, ranging from luxury lingerie to custom tie-dyed fashions, and of course, now they are our #BFFFs! (Best Fashion Friends Forever) 5 Brands You Need to Know: Made By Keeper: Custom tie-dye fashions and accessories KKira Feet Shoes: Shoes that make you smile Vienne Milano: Italian-made luxury thigh-high stockings TITOV Label: Luxury lingerie Paridaez: Contemporary convertible clothing MADE BY KEEPER We are so excited we found this fun and ON TREND designer, Lindsey of Made by Keeper.  Lindsey LITERALLY tie-dyes anything and everything and has the most fun clothing items and accessories for humans, for babies, for doggies – you name it.  Her brand is all about keepin’ it comfy and cozy. So, from hoodie and jogger sets (SO ON BRAND!), to socks and shorts, to kitchen towels and dog hoodies – if you want it tie-dyed, they have got it for you. #MadebyKeeper also likes to do one-off items and custom items. Got some favorite white tennis shoes you’d like to have in your school colors? They can splatter paint them for you! It’s so fun and creative and the options are endless. Also, be sure to listen to hear all about Lizzo wearing her gear; #truestory UM......YAAAAS!! Shop Made by Keeper at https://www.madebykeeper.com/ KKIRA FEET SHOES Holly welcomes Mauryn, a self-taught shoe designer that is not for the faint of heart – and we are here for all of it!!! Kkira Feet Shoes, pronounced “Chirrah,” are handcrafted in Italy, is black-woman-owned small business, and their brand motto is "Shoes that make you smile!" How fabulous is this? #Kkirafeetshoes was essentially created so that they can inspire people to express their true selves. In other words, to express themselves authentically and not worry so much about what things you should or shouldn't wear. Buy what makes you happy! These styles are very colorful. fun and for the out of of the box fashionista. Mauryn wanted shoes that were eye-catching and that made a bold statement.  So dammit, she designed her own. Her designs are very original and different – so be prepared!! She features everything from flats, sneakers, heels to chunky lace-up boots.  Her shoes are made to order, so that means that they are not mass-produced. Each pair is made specifically for the person who has ordered them. And, in order to keep that concept, they do not have a traditional brick and mortar store, but have big plans for an ultimate shopping experience for customers in the future! Stay tuned! KKira shoes are about to become a BFD, and Holly loves this kind of brand and story. They have been featured in tons of national and international magazines – but remember  - you heard it here first.  Shop Kkira Feet Shoes at https://www.kkirafeet.com/ VIENNE MILANO We have featured #VienneMilano before on our show because we cannot get enough of her stylish, sexy, practical, elegant, and luxurious hosiery. Vienne hails from Boston and started her business after she couldn't find thigh-high stockings that would stay up on her leg or a product that matched what she needed.  At the time, she worked in corporate America and wanted thigh-high stockings or hosiery that she could wear every day to work, and that would be appropriate for work.  She also didn’t need them to cost over $100. #umthatsanofromme  So, she decided to solve her own damn fashion dilemma, despite the fact that she doesn’t come from a design or fashion design background.  Instead, she did her research and with her then business partner, they traveled to Italy to research and interview suppliers, and now have all of their products made there.  Our girl Holly did not believe for ONE SECOND that she could ever get away with stockings without the benefit of their shaping and support parts. But she has seen the light! She is Vienne Milano convert!  She has worn these thigh highs, and she has worn them again! She was comfortable in them all day and could pee with ease, #justsayin and went all day without having to sweat to death pulling her things down and then pulling them all the way up. She is a believer!  But more importantly, are Vienne’s gorgeous styles. She has a “permanent” collection – which features the thigh-high styles that have been around for decades (only nicer!), and a “signature” collection. The signature collection is more fashion-forward that are designed by Vienne in a small quantity and are only available for a limited time.  Shop Vienne Milano at https://viennemilano.com PARIDAEZ Paridaez designs are modern, modular, and minimalistic clothing essentials for life's everyday adventures. Every day can be an adventure— that's why each piece of the Paridaez clothing lines can change into completely different articles of clothing.  Allison Daroie, the CEO and founder of Paridaez, designed this line with utility in mind, so you can easily transition from a professional setting, workout, evenings out, and it's great for travel. She taught herself to design, learned the production process, and bootstrapped the company because she wants other women to be ready for anything! Holly is just enthralled with this Boston-based brand because it is super functional and fun: she can put on one of the shirts, and then turn it around backward where it becomes a different top.  She can then put it around her waist, and it becomes a skirt! Whaaatttt are you saying to me right now. Even better – Allison’s clothes look amazing on every body type and age. Mainly because of the fabric they have chosen. Their main material is a ponte, which is a rayon/nylon/lycra. The ponte knit is very opaque and very flattering, but still has a lot of stretch. It's very breathable and looks really good in any setting. It's machine washable, driver, dryer, safe wicks, moisture and keeps its shape. Shop at https://paridaez.com/ TITOV Label Masha Titova is the founder and creative director of TITOV Label, which is a lingerie brand focusing on celebrating everyday luxuries. All of the undergarments are fit for special occasions, but they're so comfortable you'll want to wear them every day.  Masha tells us that one of the biggest things she is really proud of is that from day one, she offered about three times more sizes than the typical lingerie brand. They tried to expand and accommodate as best as possible for anyone with like rare sizes.  In this episode, Masha tells us the story of riding a rollercoaster as she launched her brand right before freaking COVID! She shares how lots of people came through to help and how you realize how people are when the world goes through something totally pandemic. As we said, Holly loves her BADASS women entrepreneurs! Holly also loves that TITOV lingerie is not your mother’s sports bra. We all have those. When you come home and want to change into something more comfortable, you don’t actually need to look like a schlub or on your way to working out. Sexy, functional, beautiful, comfortable. CHECK. IT. OUT. Shop TITOV Lable at https://titovlabel.com. You have until December 19th if you want to enter our Christmas Giveaway. Just check us out on our Instagram and get your name in the game!!! How to Buy a Handbag | EP 70

If you're trying to convince someone that they should buy you a bag this holiday season, we're not mad at you. If you've been saving this big-ticket item for your list, fear no more. We got you. Um, you're welcome, because......sheeeee’s baaaack!! Our favorite high fashion guru, Nolan Meader, the QUEEN, fairy gaymother and best gay that he is, is back to give us the 411 on the #handbags you need to buy – and the handbags you CAN buy! He. Knows. All. Bags.  Holly and Nolan are here this week to give you handbag-buying strategies: what to spend, what to buy, where to buy. And you need to trust us on this one: Because Nolan is the Bag Yoda. Everyone can have a nice handbag, and can absolutely do so without selling a kidney.  #wepromise We are so happy to welcome Nolan back to the show as he shares some of his favorite handbag brands and styles right now – all at real people's price-points.  Why is it important to have a nice handbag?  Well if you must ask, then you need to go back a listen to a few more episodes. Jussayin’ We all know about #Chanel and #Dior and #LV and the big designer names. But savvy shoppers should know what style of bag they need (everyday vs. investment, night out vs. work bag).   As you may know from previous episodes, Nolan believes in “invest and build” for any wardrobe. So, buy the best that you can, when you can, slowly building a quality closet full of things you love – and, that will stand the test of time (and stand the test of use!). Step Number One:  What sort of bags should you buy? Do you work out of the house, and need an everyday bag? Do you need one nice evening bag? Do you need a gorgeous, name-dropping bag? Do you just need a bag that isn’t pleather?  Nolan lists some of his favorite bags of the moment: Coach  Staud Telfar Polène Step Number Two:  Quality Matters It goes without saying that quality materials matter.  Look for real leather and durable materials. Don’t get caught up in a designer name if it isn’t made well! Why waste your time and money on something that you can’t use every day? Why do you suppose the resale of designer bags is so popular? Why are they so expensive? Because THEY LAST FOREVER. #Duh. You get what you pay for.  So buy vintage if you can, even a ‘lovingly used’ handbag is lovely because they are built to stand the test of time – and transcend trends and styles.  Other Key Insights Get yourself a ‘credit card’ holder – if you want to be able to change handbags easily, this makes the transfer easy! If you are just starting out, buy what you love and buy what you can afford – but think QUALITY instead of trendy. If your favorite daily bag is beat down and 15 years old, you probably need a new bag. #pleasestop Don’t get overwhelmed – like all fashion things that we talk about – THERE ARE NO RULES! We are just here as your Sherpa’s to lead you to the best fashions based on what works for you. Holly is here for you! Need help? Let her send you a fashion lifeline. DM Holly Katz Styling on social – she is happy to help. Coming up next week:  DO NOT MISS OUR CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE AND GIVEAWAY on our Instagram. We will feature tons of designer items that make the perfect gifts from our #BestieBrands. We start on Monday, December 13th, so be sure to check us out on IG. How to be the Hottest Dish at Holiday Dinner | EP 69

Ho, Ho, Ho, Fashion Friends! FYI and Fashion News Alert: It's December, y’all! Um, sorry- how did we get here? Wasn't it summer just last week? This week, your favorite personal stylist Holly Katz is talking about the Who, What, When, Where and Why of holiday style, and how to dress for not only holiday events, but for the whole month of December. Join us as we discuss style options and trends for this holiday season. The holidays can bring out the best - and unfortunately - the worst in holiday style. Figuring out what to wear when you are already stressed about the holidays can be too much for some people. It can even be depressing, because you feel defeated before you even get started.  So first, let’s address the elephant in the room:  the Ugly Christmas Sweater thing; Yeah, no. Just, no.   Ok? Are we finally past this? Let's cast our net a little wider, shall we? Instead, with a little planning and some dos and don’ts from Holly, you will find you can let go of your outfit anxiety and maybe even become the “Hottest Dish at your Holiday Dinner!” #outfitgoals First, The What: Be comfortable, but not too comfy Comfort is important, but it doesn't mean that you do not try. Being dressed for the day will make you feel better and motivate you to do more. Sitting around in clothes that you don't want to be seen in public is a fashion crime. It’s a busy time of the year – you are going places, seeing people, welcoming people in your home.   Instead, Holly recommends “elevated casual” wear.  Something with a little stretch or give in it. Try cute joggers or flare knit pants paired with a hip sneaker (not workout sneakers). Add a cropped jacket or a chunky sweater. Then add some statement jewelry and a cool bag  - and you are fashionable comfortable to stay home all day – or run out for quick errands.   Going out to dinner If you are going out at night, you need a little somethin’ somethin’ more than the day. Whether it’s a casual dinner with friends or something a little more spirited, try a maxi dress or long skirt with boots. Holly recommends staying away from the blue jean look.  You can wear that all day. For nighttime, wear a colored denim or a leather-like jean, which is like a wax-coated jean. This is an absolute favorite staple. And it looks good at any size.   Special events If you are attending a concert or other events at the top of the food chain, Holly prefers a dress – if it’s special, dress up!  Recommended is a surplus wrap dress (like the famous Diane Von Furstenberg), or a maxi dress paired with a bodysuit top, a leather jacket, and a dress shoe. One recommendation: If you are going to wear a short dress, Puulleeeazzzzz do a “sit down” test first. If you sit down, and it comes way above the knee or your thigh, the dress is too short.  Pair a short dress with our #BrandBestie Vienne Milano patterned tights or stockings, and a cute evening bag, and you are knocking it out of the park!   Evening bags 411 These are not your everyday shoppers or tote bags. Invest in the time to find a small evening bag that will add a little pop when going out. Get one at T.J. Maxx on sale or buy the Judith Leiber, just have one in your closet at all times.   Next, The Where: Cold weather-wear Where you are living is very important when you're taking these fashion tips into consideration. We just want to say this: if you live in a super cold climate, a dress code is a non-negosh. Outerwear, when it's really cold outside, is just as important as the outfit you are wearing underneath. Do not skimp on this. If Holly catches you wearing a puffer jacket or ski jacket when you get dressed up, she is going to find you.  If you've had the same coat for 15 years, let's get your ass a new coat. Guess what? There are new styles out now and forever. Get a new coat. Please.  #Duh   Warm weather-wear If you live somewhere where it's really hot, or the seasons don't really change, you can still dress a little bit more festive during this time by wearing lightweight, long-sleeved tops, light knits, or something that doesn't scream summer.  Light sweaters are a favorite. But what Holly really loves is a sequin pant. Sequins do not hold any heat. They are certainly not something you only can wear in the wintertime. In fact, Holly’s ass is going to be rocking some sequin pants later this week because she going to be in Miami for Art Week! Yaaaassss!   And now for The Who: Be yourself. Be realistic. Wear what fits you well. Who are you dressing? Not the who you used to be, not the who you're gonna be. Not when you lose weight, 10 pounds from now.  Dress for who you are today. As an example, Holly admits she is middle-aged. She can't really skirt around that one, as she is on the 50 upswing. Okay, this is as good as it gets, people. Live life. Eat the way you want to eat.  And that's it. Dress for who you are today. Dress for the body you have TODAY. Over or under 50, it doesn't really matter. The rules are still the same. When you dress for the body you have today, people around you will think you've lost weight. People are going to start to notice that you're taking charge of your style. #facts   WHY??? Thinking about what you're going to wear this month- It makes me want to cry just thinking about it!! BUT...you can do it.    Keep it real Do you find yourself starting sentences with: “At my age, I shouldn't be doing this,” and, “I shouldn't be wearing that”? Holly sees a lot of clients who are honestly just dressing really safe. Some people call it old. We like to call it “safe”. Holly says you need to take some time to focus on yourself – it’s ok. Really! It’s not a crime!  Try to tap back into the time in your life when you dressed a litter freer, a little more fun. You can do it, and it will make you feel better.   Just remember, at the end of the day, we are not just dressing for holiday parties. We're really dressing for the entire season. Right? We want to take this as a very nice end to a year that we came out of kicking and screaming - but alive. Fashionably misguided? We don't know what to do? Are we at home? Are we not at home? Are we vaccinated? Are we around people who are vaccinated with a toxic political climate and COVID being every other word that everyone's talking about?  Let's tap back into what makes us happy. And if you need a lifeline, let's try fashion and style. Let's try that and see if it works. Let's be festive without stating the obvious.  NO. UGLY. ASS. CHRISTMAS. SWEATERS. EVER. MKAY?  It's funny, we get it. We think it's funny too. But let's just give a nod to the season by kicking it up a notch. Consider yourself fashionably inspired now. Yay you! 2021 Hanukkah Gift Guide Giveaway | EP 68

We know, we know: it’s Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but in addition, #HANUKKAH is super early this year!  So, your favorite stylist, Holly Katz, has hand-picked some very fashionable gift ideas to share with y’all! #OneForTheJews Introducing the Fashion Crimes Podcast Hanukkah Gift Guide, packed with stylish items from our #BestieBrands: women-owned, independent designers and creator brands who live and breathe the slow-fashion movement.  We want you to #ShopSmall this year (and always, duh)! Oh, and don’t let us forget to tell you at the end of the show: we have a Hanukkah Gift Giveaway event going on right now on the Fashion Crimes Podcast Instagram account, running through Nov. 28, 2021. Stay tuned for how to enter!  Anyhoo, Holly has been busy scouting one-of-a-kind fashion items that are “Holly-Approved” and definitely not fashion crimes - nor gifts that will ever be exchanged or shoved in the back of a closet.  In this week’s episode, we introduce 5 of our #BestieBrand designers and Holly’s recommendation for the best gifts ever: #1.  ALLY SHOES, NYC  Created by designer Samantha Dong in NYC, these shoes are made for walking! After suffering from heel pain and a serious hiking injury, Samantha had a difficult time finding comfortable and stylish shoes. So, she partnered with a podiatrist, a former innovative director at Nike, and a very talented designer to start this brand and create a truly pain-free high heel that still looks stylish! Ally Shoes gorgeous styles - which include a classic pump, a kitten heel, a strap heel, and the wildly popular block heels - also offer many different sizes, with four different widths from narrow to extra wide. Shoe sizes run from 4 through 12, with half sizes, so anyone with any kind of foot shape can really find their perfect fit in our shoes. Of course, we cannot recommend gift ideas without trying them on for you to check for fit and function. Holly fell in love with their style, of course. But as you will see if you visit her Instagram account, Holly is literally dancing and twirling in these amazing shoes.  SHOP at https://www.ally.nyc #2. CRISCARA JEWELRY Second on our Gift Guide is modern, bohemian jewelry for jet setters, dream chasers and magic makers, created by designer Crista Grasso. Holly met the glorious Crista in Arizona at the She Podcasts LIVE event this fall - and Holly knew instantly that this jewelry would be perfect for her clients, to give as gifts - and for all y'all!! Criscara’s very affordable and sexy jewelry designs are 100% made in the USA and are a very high-quality fashion line that she created to help people express their individuality. Crista feels jewelry is a strong part of self-expression. So, when she wasn't finding anything that represented her, she started creating items for herself, and the rest is history. Holly is really drawn to the boho, desert, festival, free spirit vibe. Crista loves layering necklaces, and she is well known for her hand- and foot-chains, which are some of her best sellers. If you picture a bracelet connected to a ring and an anklet connected to a toe ring, that's the style she represents...easy, fun, boho and free-spirited. If you're heading out to a networking meeting, and you're shaking someone's hand, when you have these amazing hand-chains on, it's a great conversation starter.    SHOP at https://criscara.com/   AMANDA PEARL Amanda Pearl jewelry is a women founded, women run, sustainable fine jewelry brand providing revolutionary pricing and sustainable luxury. They are also famous for their celebrity-coveted clutches often worn on the red carpet by Meryl Streep, Michelle Obama and more!  The Amanda Pearl team crafts lasting, fine jewelry every day of the year, which results in 60% off of traditional retail prices every day. There is no need to wait for sales. You get the best price every day! Their manufacturing and business models have cut out the middleman, and all of the markups that come with traditional retail, so they offer customers real, fair prices. Their chic, fashion-forward jewelry is proudly crafted in New York City using recycled gold and ethical diamonds. They are trying to create as small a footprint as possible, making small collections throughout the year so that there's less waste by not mining metal or stones - and just being as gentle as they can on our planet. #motherearth This business strategy also allows the brand to give 10% to a different cause each quarter. Right now they are giving to the Trust for Public Lands, who does amazing work creating and maintaining green spaces for us all to enjoy. SHOP at https://amandapearl.com/ 4.) VIENNE MILANO Vienne Milano is the first luxury hosiery brand and online boutique dedicated to thigh high stockings. Their products are made in Italy for women who want to reveal their style and confidence by being elegant, playful and sexy in every occasion. Stockings are a true fashion complement, as they can define the outfit - legs are a canvas for color and texture, thigh highs allow you to use it. Yet Vienne Milano is not just about making a fashion statement: by wearing thigh highs, a woman gains a little glamorous secret that provides her personality with an extra boost. Vienne created her brand because she couldn't find thigh highs that would stay up on her leg. She used to work in corporate America and was trying to find stockings that were comfortable to wear to work, that were appropriate for work, and at a price point that she could afford to wear everyday, as well. She had traveled to Europe since her teen years, and Italy was the first country in Europe she spent time in. She knew this style of hosiery existed in Europe, especially in Italy, so she spent three months there, almost 10 years ago now, sourcing products, and launched the business in 2011.    Holly loves these stockings – and let us tell you – there ARE NOT your mother’s panty hose!! They are much more comfortable and come in various patterns, levels of opaque-ness and a variety of leg bands for comfort and style. Holly says they are GOR-GINA!!! And they are extremely luxurious and indulgent. #sochic   Shop at https://viennemilano.com/  PARIDAEZ Paridaez designs are modern, modular and minimalistic clothing essentials for life's everyday adventures. Everyday can be an adventure— that's why each piece of the Paridaez clothing lines can change into completely different articles of clothing.  Allison Daroie, the CEO and founder of Paridaez, designed this line with utility in mind, so, you can easily transition from a professional setting, workout, evenings out, and it's great for travel. She taught herself to design, learned the production process, and bootstrapped the company because she wants other women to be ready for anything! Holly is absolutely enthralled with this Boston-based brand because it is super functional and fun: she can put on one of the shirts, and then turn it around backward, where it becomes a different top.  She can then put it around her waist, and it becomes a skirt! Designer Spotlight: Nicky Bandera of Project Paulie | EP 67

New Bestie Alert! ‘Tis the season of giving, and we have some serious SOUL FOOD for you this week as we welcome a LIFE-CHANGING designer who gives back to the world with her tomato-forward brand Project Paulie, and new retail store called All Together Now. Did you know? Not only is Holly “The Best Fashion Friend You Never Knew You Needed,” but she is also on a mission to hunt down and highlight women-owned fashion brands and businesses and bring them into the spotlight, because let’s face it: Who Runs The World? GIRLS! #duh #beyonce This week our Designer Spotlight is shining on Nicky Bandera of Boston. Nicky tells us that her passion is to make things that comfort people physically as well as emotionally. The emotional aspect is the fact that she believes in providing a huge “give back” to the world. What does it mean to have a brand with a purpose? And, why does her brand feature a bright, red, shiny tomato? Well it all started during the COVID-19 crisis when restaurants and restaurant workers, especially undocumented workers, were being devastated by the severity of the national lockdowns.  Nicky, her husband and her daughter started cooking.  And they decided to make meals featuring a family tomato sauce that ultimately fed 5,000 people a day for 150 days. And because she is a designer first, she also started putting an embroidered tomato symbol on knit hats and sold them to raise money for related charities. She changed the color of the hats so that each color would go to a different charitable organization.  Most of them were local charities in Massachusetts, and about 1/3 were national charities that everyone would know, like No Kid Hungry, and No Us Without You. See a list of some of the charities they support here. How fabulous is that! Amazeballs.  Now they have a variety of wearables featuring the tomato, and it has just gone crazy because people are always going to ask: “What is that tomato all about?” It's on shirts, camo jackets and anything else in the store that you can customize.  You can get as crazy as you want with their rainbow of thread colors, fonts, monograms, names or cuss words using their special chain-stitch machine. Giving. Me. Life.  Chain-stitching is something that only a few people in this country do.
