094 When Your Parenting Journey Isn't What You Expected with Einat Nathan

In this episode, we talk with Einat Nathan, a parenting expert, counselor, and author from Israel. Her first book Haimsheli, was a bestseller across all categories in Israel, making her a national celebrity. The book resonated because mothers read it, cried and smiled, and discovered a way to look at their children as independent people, not solely as an extension of who they are or as a calling card. Einat helps parents with a fresh approach to parenting and is the parent to 5 teenagers. Her book My Everything, was recently translated into English.  We discuss the difference in parenting expectations in the US versus Israel, how the way our parents raised us affected our thoughts on parenting and what pressures we face as parents in this digital age. Resources We Shared:Join our newsletter! 092 How to Parent for the Long Haul with Julie Lythcott-Haims

When we over-parent and rescue all the time, we're depriving our kids from living. Life is truly an active verb. And when we focus on making things easier in the short term, we deprive our kids of the skills they need for the long haul. In this episode we speak with Julie Lythcott-Haims who is the New York Times bestselling author of the anti-helicopter parenting manifesto How to Raise an Adult, Real American, and her newest book, Your Turn: How to Be an Adult. 090 Why We Need to Rethink What is Self -Care with Christine Koh, Ph.D.

What if we told you that we can live better, happier, and simpler lives by making a few adjustments to how we think about self-care? Would you try it? In this episode, we are talking with Dr.Christine Koh. She’s a music and brain scientist turned multimedia creative! She spent a decade in academia, during which time she was awarded prestigious fellowships from the National Institutes of Health to fund her Ph.D. research at Queen’s University and joint-appointment postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Massachusetts Institutes of Technology. Christine was about to become a professor when she decided to hang up her academic spurs in favor of more flexible and independent ventures. We discuss what so many of us view “protective self-care” as and what it really needs to be to actually benefit us in the long run. Christine also shares with us her breakdown of Self-Care into two distinct parts: Protective Care and Restorative Care. And how they relate to boundaries, toxic relationships, taking a “pause”, and really overall -how we care for ourselves. Resources we shared:Me & My Friendships Pre-Order Bonus Christine Koh Edit Your Life Podcast Hello Relationships Podcast  Protective Care vs. Restorative Care CNN Friendships Piece  The Washington Post- Why the parental pandemic wall feels so bad right now, and what you can do about it  Podcast Episode 026 How to Help Your Tween Navigate Relationships with Phyllis Fagell  CNN- How parents can support kids through (and beyond) the latest wave of anti-Asian American violence Jessica Turner- The Mom Creative Lydia Denworth  Leave Us a Podcast Review (How to Video) Download the Transcripts HERECheck out our favorite deals from our sponsors here!  Learn more about your ad choices.
