5 Steps to Being a More Patient Parent
Has this happened to you? You walk into the living room and see your kid’s shoes thrown on the couch. You calmly ask your kid to take their shoes off the couch and put them away. You come back later, and there is your kid, and there are the shoes. Still on the couch. So you ask again, and your kid tells you that they will do it in a minute. Then you come into the room again, and nothing has happened. Neither the shoes nor your kid has moved. You absolutely lose it! You yell at your kid, they yell back at you or start crying, and then you end up putting the shoes away yourself. If this sounds familiar to you, then you will love this episode. It was made just for you! We will share practical ways you can keep your cool as well as strategies you can use in the moment and after it, using our simple 5 step process: P.E.A.C.E. How to Handle Your Kids Next Meltdown with Kim Hopkins, LICSW
In this episode, we speak with Kim Hopkins, LICSW who’s a Collaborative & Proactive Solutions Trainer and Director of Outreach for Lives in the Balance. There she works with parents, educators, and providers to share the research that shows kids with concerning behaviors aren’t lacking motivation, they’re lacking skills, especially those related to flexibility, adaptability, emotion regulation, frustration tolerance, and problem-solving. We talk about how we often mislabel our kids' motivations for bad behavior as something done for attention, when often, it’s a matter of our kids simply missing skills. Kim share some great examples of times when kids had meltdowns and/or extreme behaviors that were damaging their relationships at home and school, and simply using 3 steps in collaborative problem solving the situations were resolved quickly and the relationship between child, parents, and teachers remained intact. Finding your Authentic Self with Ryan Haddon
So many of us are told that if we were a “good” mom that we would be able to do everything perfectly and be fulfilled solely in our identity as a mom, but guess what- that’s a lie! Why is it that we get so wrapped up in checking things off our to-do list that we miss out on the things that truly fill our soul and help us be the best versions of ourselves? In this episode, we’re joined by Ryan Haddon, Life & Spiritual Coach, Meditation Teacher, and Hypnotherapist. She helps women create more happy, healthy, and more balanced lives. She’s the daughter of an international supermodel and actress and had a wonderfully unique life growing up in Toronto, New York, and Paris. She now lives in New Hope, Pennsylvania, and is a mother to 4 kids ages 7, 9, 20, and 22. We chat about our own struggles trying to let go of that image of who we “had” to be and what we found was our true, authentic self. And the whole bumpy journey that was in between. Do we parent like our moms? with Betsy Stover
Many of us have good memories of our parents and growing up, but then...there are the not-so good things. Maybe it’s the “My house my rules!” statement that you heard from your parents over and over again, or maybe it’s how your parents never had any consistency with their rules growing up. No matter what experience we had, one thing is for certain- our parents influence how we parent. For good and for bad. In this episode, we're joined by Betsy Stover as we laugh so hard that we cry as we ask that question…Do I parent like my mom did? Betsy Stover is the host of the podcast “Why Mommy Drinks”. She’s a comedian and a mom that helps other parents feel less alone, by showing them that all of us are a hot mess and reminding them that they are doing a great job. So listen along, laugh with us and see what realizations you have, like, do you echo-locate in your parenting too? Resources We Shared: Why Mommy Drinks PodcastJoin our newsletter!
