A TRADER'S LIFE
Nicholas Penrake
How do traders do it, overcoming setbacks, managing their risk and reining in their emotions to take chunks of money out of the markets? Showhost Nicholas Penrake chats with traders from all kinds of backgrounds, inviting them to share with us their highs and lows on their way to achieving consistent results. Trading is a tough game – they say only around 5 per cent of those who try actually make a profit. Listen to A Trader’s Life to glean some valuable insights from the market wizards Nic get to talk to. If you glance at my profile on LinkedIn, you’ll see I’m no big shot trader. Mid way through 2023, after nearly three years' trading, I'm still only break-even. But every week I learn something new. And part of that learning process is enriched by talking and listening to other traders, those with more experience than I have.We all know that emotions can seriously derail your trading aspirations. It's been my experience - and I hope you agree - that every so often listening to other traders' stories can not only be instructive but inspirational, even comforting, to a degree. Just one example: one of my guests lost 50,000 in just a just a few months. Today’s she’s crushing it in commodities. How did she do it? You come here to find out.And here’s the thing… the picture I’m getting is that it’s not so much about the money, it’s about the challenge. It’s also about freedom: finding a pursuit that can make you an income that only relies on your smarts and an internet connection. If you can get there, trading can potentially free up your day, allowing you to explore a world that extends far beyond the daily commute to an office. So, if you’re a trader interested in comparing your story with the stories of traders who’ve cracked it, or even if you’re just curious about trading, grab your headphones, open your browser and have a listen – A Trader’s Life.

Episode 65 | Moshe Hurwitz - small caps stocks trader
October 2022 and we’re still grinding away in the pits of a bear market, in case you hadn’t noticed. So, it probably makes sense to be on the short side if you’re a trader, especially if you trade penny stocks. My guest today, Moshe Hurwitz, does just that. And he does it with small cap US equities during liquidity events. ==Don't Trade with your own MoneyI don't know why it took me so long - confidence, perhaps, i.e., lack thereof - to realize I would be so much better off trading someone else's money, not my own. Episode 63 | Ryan Chandler - fx and auto trader
If you've listened to a few of these episodes, you'll know I often ask my guest, How did you get into trading? When I asked Ryan Chandler how he got into trading, I was not remotely expecting the story he had to tell. Absolutely shocking.Suffice to say, he had an extraordinary and very violent birth into the world of trading. Perhaps the thing that kept him alive as he was lying in the road, leaking pints of blood, also helped guide him through the ups and downs that are typical of everyone’s first year or two in trading. Today he runs his own outfit called The Golden Suite, and delights in teaching his strategies to others new to the game. An inspiration to us all!==Don't Trade with your own MoneyI don't know why it took me so long - confidence, perhaps, i.e., lack thereof - to realize I would be so much better off trading someone else's money, not my own. Trailer to Episode 63 | Ryan Chandler - fx and auto trader
That is a clip from trader Ryan Chandler’s reply to my usual question, How did you get into trading? Not quite the answer I'm accustomed to hearing. During his recovery from a savage knife attack from a random man with mental health issues, Ryan spent days and weeks poring over charts, teaching himself fx. A year in he took a chance plougihing money from the sale of his house into his trading account and went pro. Through relentless backtesting of his strategies, he was able to design a piece of software to automate his trading. Today he spends much less time poring over charts and more helpong students and looking after his family. Support the showSubscribe to A Trader's Life <<A Trader's Life on Twitter. Trailer to Episode 62 | Michael Taylor - UK stocks specialist
Michael Taylor is a British trader who specialises in British stocks, not through any patriotic zeal for his country, rather, because he was drawn to an area of the market that is much less talked about. He saw UK stocks as an opportunity to become an authority in a niche. And, as it turns out, he’s done very well at it. Support the showSubscribe to A Trader's Life <<A Trader's Life on Twitter. Episode 61 | Mark Shawzin - Looking for the perfect short
There are some traders who will tell you the bearish action in the markets we've been sseeing since November 21 is likely to carry on into 2023 and may even produce a recession. One of those traders is Mark Shawzin, aka The Pattern Trader.Mark and I got to know each other in 2021. Right from the get go I thought there was something special about the way he trades and the way he teaches others his own way of approaching the markets. I called him on to the show that year and not long after we began writing a book together. More on that soon, I hope. One thing I noticed rightaway: Mark has a bias for shorting. For him, it’s kind of personal. He loves to expose inflated stocks. Who better to have on the show right in the middle of a bear market? I thought to myself. Enjoy the conversation.==Become a funded traderUse my 10% Discount Coupon ATL10off for your 'audition' with Surge Trader prop firm. Episode 60 | Norman Hallet - The Disciplined Trader
Norman Hallet's been trading for decades and he now teaches it to traders of all levels. He has a special interest in the psychological and emotional game that makes up most of what we do when it comes to pressing the buy button or sell button. This is a longer episode than usual, but I think by the end of it you’ll be asking yourself, how can I tweak my own neural pathways to become a better, more consistent trader.
