Redefining humility: increasing regard for others

To gain status in a group or organization, one must give more to the group/company than they receive. This applies particularly to men, but may also be true for women. The group/company rewards individuals who sacrifice for the collective good and actively contribute, while those who only seek personal status without giving back are rejected and pushed down by the group.
