“What happened since 1971” with electric consumption

In 1971, there was a significant shift in humanity's electricity consumption, which had been increasing by 7% annually. This decline, referred to as the Henry Adams curve, marked a period where the predictions made by science fiction authors from the early to mid-1900s began to come true. Many digital technologies that required less than 10 kilowatts of power became a reality. However, any technologies that required 100 kilowatts or more did not materialize. This decline in electricity consumption caused a halt in the potential progress that could have been achieved if consumption continued to increase.
