Cosmos vs zk Stack ecosystem. dYdX moved to get more sovereignty. The bridges determine ecosystem properties.

L2s have taken inspiration from the Cosmos playbook to achieve interoperability between chains. The idea of building the internet of blockchains aligns with the concept of extending the internet with the ability to transfer and program value. The move of dYdX to the Cosmos ecosystem was driven by the need for more sovereignty and decentralization, as they were not satisfied with the previous ecosystem they were incubated in. The ZK stack is being built as an alternative that provides a viable solution. The difference between the ZK stack and the Cosmos ecosystem lies in the functionality of the bridges, which determines the properties of the ecosystem. If bridges are trusted, they introduce trust assumptions and hinder scalability. Hyper chains, on the other hand, rely on hyper bridges, which are inspired by hyperlinks on the internet and ensure seamless, cheap, one-click, and trustless transfers. Hyper bridges rely on math, cryptography, and Ethereum alone, whereas Cosmos chains require trust in a specific group of validators.
