How Do We Heal from Depression?

The stigma and misunderstanding around depression
Depression is often misunderstood and its severity underestimated due to its casual usage in everyday conversations, leading to a watering down of its true meaning. Many people incorrectly equate feeling down or sad with depression, not fully grasping the debilitating nature of clinical depression, which can last for weeks, months, or even years. This misunderstanding contributes to the stigma surrounding depression, as some individuals believe they can easily overcome it by just 'pulling themselves out of it.' The normalization of depression in society does not make it acceptable or typical, further perpetuating the stigma. The widespread impact of depression, affecting almost everyone directly or indirectly, can instill fear in individuals and drive them to distance themselves from the issue.
