EP #7 Eric Schmidt (Ex-Google CEO): How to Run a Tech Giant
Moonshots with Peter Diamandis
The Age of AI & The Compression of Time
The rapid advancement of language models is causing a significant compression of time. This compression of time poses a challenge for human systems, including legal and political systems, to keep up. The compression of time becomes evident in scenarios where quick decisions are required, such as detecting hypersonics or responding to a nuclear attack. The use of automatic defensive weapon systems and AI systems in personal security and health raises concerns, as they are powerful but prone to mistakes. As a result, there is a need for global agreements on handling these challenges, including proportional responses to potential threats and the development of automatic observatories to detect malicious activities. The history of mutually assured destruction in the nuclear age shows that collective action can address the compression of time. However, the current conversation lacks focus on the compression of time, human decision cycles, and the necessary structures to address these challenges beyond national security.
