Optimism Is a Skill
The future is decided by optimists who imagine how much our ability to solve problems improves over time. Optimism is a choice and an act of imagination. It is easy to imagine things going wrong, but harder to imagine how things work well. However, if we can imagine the good version, it becomes more likely to happen. Optimism doesn't mean ignoring problems, but rather seeing how our ability to improve and solve problems will continue. We may make new problems, but we will also develop solutions faster. A 1% difference in our ability to solve problems is all we need. We are living in a protopian world where things are getting infinitesimally better each day on average. Setbacks are temporary and can be overcome. Optimism can be learned as a skill by understanding that setbacks are not our identity and can be overcome.
