Even Churchill changed his mind and more was done to protect shipping in the Atlantic. Conferences were held in early 1943 and more liberators and flying boats were supplied. In March 1943, the Allies lost a significant amount of shipping and Britain was in danger. However, from that moment, the liberators came into action and coastal command developed bases in Iceland and the Azores, which reduced the area of sea that couldn't be covered.
