Fast English is hard to understand because of reductions and prosody. In English, some sounds and words are reduced, so what you expect to hear is not exactly what you are going to hear. This can result in phrases sounding like one mumbled word. Additionally, in English, everything is reduced and connected. Function words are reduced to allow important words to stand out. Words are also connected and grouped together in thought units for better flow.
