9 Major Components of Physical Fitness

The nine major components of physical fitness are skill/technique, speed, power, force/strength, muscular endurance, muscle hypertrophy, muscle endurance, anaerobic capacity, maximal aerobic capacity, and long duration. Skill/technique focuses on moving efficiently and effectively in specific positions and sequences. Speed is about moving at a higher velocity or with better acceleration, while power combines speed and force. Force/strength is the ability to effectively move something, while muscular endurance is the ability to perform repetitions of a movement. Muscle hypertrophy refers to the size of the muscle, and muscle endurance is the ability to do multiple repetitions of a movement. Anaerobic capacity is the maximum amount of work that can be done in a short period of time, and maximal aerobic capacity is the ability to sustain high-intensity work for 8 to 15 minutes. Long duration refers to the ability to sustain sub-maximal work without breaks or reduction.
