This has led to the closure of thousands of newspapers and left around 1,800 communities without any local news source. The phenomenon of 'ghost newspapers' has emerged, where newspapers still exist but have little to no local coverage. As a result, there is significantly less coverage of communities and serious consequences for the affected areas.
