The Power of Repetition for Skill Acquisition

Repetition is key to skill acquisition and learning. By repeatedly engaging in a behavior or with a piece of information, our neurons become more efficient and our performance improves. This is because our neurons develop a coding called Myelin, which reinforces itself every time they fire. The more reinforced the neuron, the faster it fires and the more automatic and comfortable the behavior becomes. Initially, we may feel clumsy and frustrated when faced with something new, but over time and with consistent practice, we become more comfortable and gain mastery. While professional guidance can accelerate learning, the most reliable way to learn is to simply start doing and continue doing. This realization empowers us, knowing that we have the ability to learn anything we desire.
