Reject the status quo, make your own door, go off script

Creating your own concentration in college allows you to skip irrelevant and difficult courses and explore what you actually want to study. Designing your own major frees you from contorting yourself to fit into predetermined boxes. It teaches the valuable lesson that there is a world where you can choose what you want and create it if it doesn't exist. Going off menu in life and naming your own concentration opens up interesting and fun opportunities. The predetermined course schedule in academia often includes courses that are too hard, uninteresting, or out of alignment with your goals. Academia is resistant to change, so creating your own path becomes necessary to find alignment and fulfillment.
