The German Intentions and Plans for Leningrad during World War II

The Germans did not have detailed plans for what to do when they reached Leningrad. Their original plan was to destroy the Red Army and have a triumphant advance through the city. Hitler's intention was to destroy Leningrad and reduce the Soviet population by 12 to 20 million. The Germans had no intention of physically fighting their way through the city, but rather to expel the civilians and leave the area.
