The mission of Sony after World War II was to make Japan known for quality, at a time when Japan was known for cheap copycat products. This mission was bigger than Sony itself. Similarly, Amazon aims to be Earth's most customer-centric company, setting a standard for obsessive focus on the customer rather than the competitor.
