The creator economy has experienced a boom and subsequent disillusionment, with companies cutting funding and benefits for creators. The lack of innovation in the industry is a major challenge, as many companies are simply building products that already exist. Silicon Valley only recently discovered the creator economy, despite its existence for over 15 years. There is a disconnect between tech-driven founders and the needs of creators, leading to solutions being built for non-existent problems. The dominance of platforms in the creator economy makes it difficult for startups to insert themselves into the value stream. However, creators have a lack of trust in platforms and seek freedom and diversification. Despite solutions being available on platforms, creators gravitate towards tools like Patreon and Kajabi to avoid platform dependence.
