How Super Mario Got His Name “Mario”

The Nintendo of America management felt that calling the protagonist Jumpman was not going to work and they wanted to give him more of an identity. As they were debating what to name the character, the landlord of their warehouse in Tequilla, who was named Mario, showed up demanding rent. He was animated, with a big bushy mustache, and they decided to name the character Super Mario after him. They also named the character Pauline as a thank you to the warehouse manager, whose wife was named Polly.
