Does Melatonin As A Supplement, Benefit Sleep In Any Way?

Melatonin as a supplement does not seem to be especially beneficial for healthy individuals who are not of older age. There is very little, if any, evidence that it can improve sleep. However, there are some studies that suggest it may have an effect on sleep for some individuals by dropping body temperature. Older adults with insomnia may also benefit from melatonin supplementation due to calcification of the pineal gland. The typical doses of melatonin supplements (ranging from 1 to 20 milligrams) are far higher than the normal night's release of melatonin. The effectiveness and purity of melatonin supplements are also questionable.
