The story tells of Darius summoning a Greek and an Indian and asking them how much they would be willing to do something unthinkable in their respective cultures. Herodotus uses this story to emphasize the belief that everyone thinks their own customs are the best. Interestingly, Herodotus, a Greek, sees the world from a Persian perspective, suggesting that even the Greeks recognized the centrality of the Persians.
