Happiness and unhappiness are processed in different hemispheres of the brain. Unhappiness is largely dominated by activity in the right side of the brain. There are four types of people in relation to happiness: high positive affect and high negative affect (mad scientist), high positive affect and low negative affect (cheerleader), high negative affect and low positive affect (poet), and low positive affect and low negative affect (sober judge). Negative emotions are more intense than positive emotions and serve as alarms to potential threats. It's important to manage both happiness and unhappiness levels. Happiness is not a feeling, but is associated with enjoyment, satisfaction, and meaning in life.
