Should We Use Anki for Vocabulary Learning? Or is it a Waste of Learning Time?

Using Anki for vocabulary learning depends on how it is used. Simply downloading or creating a deck of just vocabulary words without context is considered a waste of time. Anki should be used as a tool to introduce new words and create awareness, rather than solely for learning. The key aspect of this method is immersion, where encountering the new words in various situations reinforces their meaning. To make flashcards more effective, it is recommended to use entire sentences instead of single words. Including grammar and familiar words in the sentences helps provide context. Initially, using translation is acceptable, but the goal is to quickly transition to monolingual card definitions. Learning through the definitions of new words and reusing those definitions for other words is encouraged. However, some people may not prefer using Anki for vocabulary learning, and that is entirely acceptable.
