We should have a theory of doing technology for the public good

There should be a vision for AI for the public good, not just a focus on how to develop it quickly. We need to consider what we want from AI and how it can be designed to benefit the public and address their problems. The public's concerns may be more focused on scientific and medical issues rather than chatbots or tutoring. In order to prioritize public benefit, we need a theory of doing technology for the public good, not just relying on regulation alone. Currently, society tends to be more comfortable with regulatory opinions rather than proactive approaches to technology development.
