The effects of pay transparency on motivation and performance

Learning how your salary compares to your peers can result in a negative reaction if you earn less than anticipated, leading to decreased work hours and email communication. Conversely, discovering that you earn more than anticipated can elicit a positive response, motivating employees to work longer, sell more, and work harder. When individuals learn what their boss earns, they often underestimate their boss's salary. However, discovering that their boss earns more than expected is seen as positive news and is highly motivating, leading to increased dedication and effort in the workplace.
