Value Shift When Becoming a Parent
After becoming married and a parent, values may change or require more thought. Foundational values become more apparent over time and may shift slightly. Family orientation is a foundational value that brought the speaker and their spouse together. Having a child changes priorities, shifting the focus from oneself to the child. Values become less selfish. The speaker's definition of freedom has evolved. It used to mean the freedom to do anything they wanted, but now it means internal freedom - freedom from reaction, anger, sadness, and external obligations.
