Using the Fun Game of “MASH” for Narrative Writing
The teacher suggests using the game of MASH to engage students in narrative writing. Students are given a MASH board with different categories such as settings, dialogue phrases, conflicts, and character names. They draw a spiral on the board and cross off categories based on the number of lines in the spiral. This leaves them with random elements that they incorporate into a narrative, using transitions and dynamic vocabulary. The activity is enjoyable for students and has been successful in other classrooms.
