Focus on the process of success, design your system of habits
The key insight is that it is more important to focus on building a system of habits rather than trying to achieve a specific goal or outcome. A system consists of the collection of habits that one follows. If there is ever a gap between the goal and the system, the daily habits will always win. Current habits are perfectly designed to deliver current results. Results in life are a lagging measure of the habits that precede them. Luck and randomness are not under one's control, but habits are. Therefore, it is rational to focus on the elements that are within one's control. Building a system is encouraged because the outcomes of success are highly visible and discussed while the process of success is often hidden and overlooked. By adjusting and running a better system of habits, one can naturally reach a different destination.
