Maximising Value of Meetings By Accepting That Not Everything Is Relevant To Everyone

Meetings can be expensive and take up valuable time, so it's important to maximize their value. At GitLab, they always come prepared with an agenda and evolve it into meeting notes as the discussion progresses. They never present during meetings, preferring to send presentations in advance and link them to the agenda. They believe it's unrealistic for 100% of a meeting to be interesting to everyone, so it's acceptable to multitask or admit to not paying attention. Taking notes helps catch up quickly if something important occurs. Overall, the goal is to have shorter meetings, provide upfront preparation, and allow participants to focus on what they find relevant without feeling guilty.
