GPT is a causal language model trained to predict the next word in a sequence based on all the previous words. It uses an auto-regressive approach where it predicts the next thing from all the previous things and continues this process sequentially. This is why when using the GPT-3 interface, the text develops gradually as if you were typing it yourself. The same auto-regressive behavior is observed in the original GPT-3 interface or playground.
