Having observed Edwin Land's determination to master whatever he was doing and his statement of 'don't do anything that someone else can do,' Bill Gates decided to focus his energy on something where he could be the best. Despite being one of the top math students at Harvard, Gates gave up his pursuit of becoming a mathematician because he met several students who were better than him. Gates wanted to do something world-class, and being the best at what he did became his goal.
