The Challenges of Greedy Jobs for Working Parents & Impact of COVID

A greedy job demands that you prioritize work over everything else, and it can be difficult to balance such a job with being a parent. Being a working parent and being the first-line parent for your child are incompatible. Certain high-demand professions, such as lawyers, surgeons, and CEOs, are considered greedy jobs. These jobs require complete devotion and make it impossible to be readily available for your children. Although fathers can also have greedy jobs, it is often the mother who takes on the role of being on speed dial for their children. The presence of children in a household prevents one parent, usually the woman, from taking on a greedy job. However, progress has been made over the years. COVID-19 has presented an opportunity to make some jobs less greedy, which could contribute to reducing gender inequality and eliminating the barrier posed by greedy jobs.
