John Rockefeller charged his father interest for his business services and believed in the maxim of keeping ears open and mouth closed for success. He took correspondence courses to supplement his education in business and bookkeeping. At the age of 16, he focused on finding a job and approached each business with confidence, asking to speak to the top man and stating his skills. Despite constant disappointment, he persisted for six consecutive weeks, viewing his job hunt as a full-time business. Rockefeller was a determined and persistent individual.
