We Become Who We Are Through Relating to Others
Infants are born extremely vulnerable and helpless, unlike any other creature. The ability of humans to conceptualize and wonder about the cosmos, become aware of their own awareness, and even colonize Mars is deeply linked to their vulnerability. This vulnerability transforms into ability through relatedness and subjective relationships. A parent's inner subjective encounter with their child plays a significant role in their development. The moment when a child experiences their first break with reality and looks directly into their parent's eyes exemplifies the fundamental importance of relationships in shaping one's sense of reality. We become who we are through the recognition and love of others. This deep truth applies throughout our lives, as relationships are essential for personal growth and development.
