The Importance of Early Cancer Detection and Screening

Early detection of cancer significantly impacts survival rates. Stage four cancer has low survival rates, while stage three cancer shows an 80% survival rate in five years. Therefore, early screening and detection are crucial. Imaging plays a crucial role in visualizing external cancers, while for internal cancers, imaging modalities like MRI and liquid biopsy are utilized. Liquid biopsy, analyzing cell-free DNA, provides insights into potential cancer presence and tissue origin based on epigenetic signatures. However, the challenge is optimizing sensitivity and specificity. MRI scanners, as they do not involve radiation, are considered a valuable tool for cancer screening compared to whole body CT scans, which expose individuals to high radiation doses.
