Techniques for Modifying Language Model Behaviors

There are three major ways to modify the behavior of a language model. The first way is through prompt injection, where the model's behavior is changed by modifying the input prompt. The second way is through fine-tuning, which conditions the model to act in certain ways and allows us to control its outputs. The third and most profound way is through pre-training, where the model is trained on a combination of domain-specific and general data, similar to how education works. Pre-training helps the model acquire knowledge and specialize over time.
