Google's AI Ethics: Responsible Decisions or Mismanagement?

Google has two possible scenarios: it has been making responsible decisions about AI for the last decade, or it has been mismanaged and failed to capitalize on its technological lead. Recent developments like chat GPT and Bing forced Google to take action. While it could be argued that the world would be better off if these technologies hadn't been launched, they now exist and Google is playing catch-up. It is unclear whether Google should have launched its AI technology earlier or if the company is being responsible by taking a cautious approach. Unlike OpenAI, Google sees its AI technology as toys and demos and wants to fully understand it before putting it into widespread use.
