The importance of taking time for self-evaluation in moments of quiet
People in their late twenties, thirties, forties, and fifties often experience a mini crisis where they question the meaning and richness of their lives. This leads to extreme behavior such as signing up for marathons or engaging in extra-marital affairs. However, the research suggests that taking time for self-evaluation in quieter moments is crucial. The speaker recommends devoting one day every three months to assess where one is in life and whether they are heading in the right direction. This process of reflection, known as a friction audit, helps identify areas of friction and make necessary adjustments. By doing this regularly, individuals can avoid blindly heading towards a dead end and instead achieve meaningful change. Unfortunately, people do not engage in this high-level thinking enough, so it is important to schedule these self-evaluation days and prioritize them in our calendars.
