The Tech Giants as Urban Planners of Attention Landscape
Apple, Google, and Facebook act as urban planners of a billion people's attention landscape. They have created an invisible city where users have no civic representation or say in the design. Unlike a democracy, there is no mayor or public input in decisions such as the placement of stoplights or blinker signals. The only form of representation comes from users choosing not to use or buy the product.
