Gratitude fosters humility and acknowledges our indebtedness to God, which is essential for spiritual growth and well-being. It contrasts starkly with entitlement, often seen in those who gain material wealth without recognizing the source of their blessings. Gratitude is a powerful motivator that builds relationships, enabling a cycle of giving and receiving that enhances interpersonal connections. True gratitude involves recognizing the giver behind the good things in life, shifting the focus from material possessions to the relationships we cultivate. It encourages individuals, particularly youth, to appreciate their reliance on God and understand that salvation is not earned through a transactional relationship but rather through love and generosity. Practices such as journaling about daily blessings from God, acknowledging others' contributions, and expressing thanks cultivate a habit of gratitude that can transform one’s outlook on life from a perspective of entitlement to one of appreciation. This transformation ultimately enriches relationships within families, with friends, and in communities, revealing gratitude's role as a catalyst for a more fulfilling and connected life.
Dr. Jenae Nelson continues to discuss Helaman 1-6, including the power of gratitude for the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Great “Coming Back” to the Church.
