NOTE

The Dishonesty of Machine Learning

Machine learning can lead to a kind of dishonesty because it can create false understanding and trust. When someone speaks about their experience in a particular field, we give value to their words based on the understanding that they have actual experience. However, if we later find out that they were making it all up, it can be frustrating and violating. This kind of dishonesty can erode our trust in words and truth. If none of the words we read have any real grounding in experience, then they have no connection to truth or reality. This can result in a situation where people are simply talking to each other in an abstract land without any basis in reality.
