Regulating AI is urgent because waiting for it to become entwined with various aspects of society, like social media did, would make it difficult to regulate due to vested interests. Social media has captured fundamental aspects of society, such as journalism, media, elections, and business, making it challenging to regulate. The same could happen with AI if action is not taken now, as it is already rapidly rolling out. Waiting to regulate AI would allow vested interests to make it harder to implement effective regulations.
